People don't know how to take criticism anymore, and bad play is rewarded with with a coddling mentality. Yes, this is a casual game for the most part - that doesn't mean people need to walk on eggshells in fear of getting reported for pointing out things. This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.
Where is your proof that this is solely the reason for it? Oh right, you're just making assumptions and spreading it around as facts.
Blame Amazon and its flawed system, not the players who were smart to use said flaw. If they fixed that from the very start, we wouldn't be here. I'm not defending those who exploited this however, but they should've predicted this somehow. It's not something that should be easily exploited and if they did, who's really to blame?
But as we all know, it's pretty convenient to put the blame on everyone else instead of yourself.

I'd still like to see an official response (an apology) regarding this awful promotion.

So, now the Europeans are to blame for NA players cheating and SE arranging this awful promo? Wat? O.oBlame Amazon and its flawed system, not the players who were smart to use said flaw. Corrected that for you.
No point blaming the NA players because all they did was to use a flaw in the system, a flaw that wasn't fixed until later: it's not that they hacked or broke the site or something because it was a turnaround inside the system, which only later got fixed by giving you codes when the purchase was being shipped. THAT should've been from the start.
Do you blame someone for using a glitch for winning the game, or the game that let such a glaring flaw to exist with? I don't like using cheats myself but you can be sure that many won't have regrets breaking the game for winning it.
However I'm not saying that the exploiters did a good thing (did you even read what I wrote however? the part where I said I'm not defending them?), but considering that you could easily get the codes so easy with zero cost, don't you think that the Amazon Promotion should've been more carefully planned? And fixed right away instead of later? All the NA players did was to abuse of a flaw in the system, and if said system is -pardon me- garbage, why are you blaming the players to begin with?
Don't hate the player, hate the game.
Also yes it's SE's fault for arranging this. It's not that this was their only choice afterall, as many in this thread came up with much better ideas. If Amazon was not going to be re-used - which is fine, I don't like Amazon to be honest - they could've made anything else, such as in-game prizes, mogshop promotion, online giveaways, anything really, but SE chose the worst possible choice and said choice is giving them quite of a backlash. Not only that, but there's a potential issue for hoarders selling codes for 10 times the price. So yes, I think also SE is part of the fault on this.
PS:And on a unrelated yet fun fact about this flaw: doesn't this all sound too familiar with the private housing mafia going around...you know, selling houses for 10 times the price and instead of fixing it, they ban players for selling plots?

I seriously doubt the Amazon thing was responsible for them going with this magazine crap. Do you have any idea how far in advance they had to plan for codes to be given out in a printed magazine?
No, but that would mean that they purposedly did this poorly, which is even worse. If this was a mistake (I hope so) then all they had to do is to apologize (or anything really: they still didn't really responded to us properly, besides the usual clarification notes).
I mean I don't have "any" idea of how far in advance this should be done, but if your first idea is "to use a paper magazine for a promotion all across europe" without thinking of the possible drawbacks (lack of copies, possible clones, copies without codes, etc), then something must be wrong with you, especially when other countries had this very well managed - despite the Amazon debacle.
As many said in previous posts a promotion - to be successful - needs to be accessible. This is the entire opposite of accessible (not because of the UK magazine itself, but because of the very limited number of copies) and while they said that other countries will have different promotion I ask this again: why did we not receive a single reply about this? Especially after such a big backlash.
To be very honest, this situation is going to be "lose-lose" for SE, regardless of the different promotions for EU: people are upset and assuming this promotion will be better later on, the damage is done. Something for helping would be to reply to us and say what's the future plan right now and tell us what's going to happen for EU players.
Which they did not....yet at least.

The best we can hope for is that - at the very least - feedback has been passed along to the developers. I think we're due to see a new Live Letter announced fairly soon so depending on when that is the issue may be addressed then by the developers directly.
