So another story finally has the Book close in 3.X era. This short yet long lasting story that started in 2.0 about Edda as she fall into the darkness of despair after the death of her fiance and her party left her when each member could not play their role blaming only her since she was the healer.

Her Soul finally found salvation and put to rest with her fiance.

A rather nice ending after such a long and short tale of despair and insanity.

yet one story remain unanswered.....

What became of that Demon that took over Avere's Head? *Thunder sound effect*

Is is soemthing that maybe I udertood bit wrong. When we finaly beated her, and then spirit poped. She doesnt say that she doesnt she wanted to be good adventurer but after a dark figure she didnt remember a thing? Well im gonna check the cutscene again just in case.

My unanswered question is where she learned all of this magic. She said that she was returning home to start over when Avere died, then she came back able to summon voidsent! Somewhat dramatic change.

There's actually another book that closes in the Palace of the Dead...another Gridanian tragedy...

Floor 41+ spoilers:

Much later a single, solitary, Duskwight Lancer near the bottom. He seemed slightly tougher than the other enemies down there (at least for the early 40s), I only encountered one in a full clear, and more importantly: he speaks! Additionally, pretty much only voidsent appear around that level (manticores potentially notwithstanding) and his armor and face and hair are very familiar....

I know the first shot isn't very clear, but I was fighting you see, and I couldn't stop my party and go "wait! this could be loreportant!" I feel like the connection is definitely there, though.

It seemed like this still takes place canonically after Tam-Tara (Hard), while her mind was broken and her bodied injured from the fall some robed mage approached her with tales of more powerful void magick that could truly resurrect Avere, or something. Then we free what ever demonic influence the void/masked mage had over her and her "true" soul was able to thank us and peace out to the Aetherial Sea. I can't find where to rewatch the final cutscene of the Palace in the Unending Journey so I'm a little annoyed, but it definitely felt like they were stringing us along for further reveals/expansions. I'm not much for gambling but I'd definitely think an Avere rematch isn't out of the question--we need reasons to go back there, and find out who the hell is going out giving dark arts to every grieving widow of an abusive husband. With most things, especially voidal and summoning things, I'm always content to point my finger at the fingers of Zodiark, though how this furthers Lord Zodiark's revival I haven't the foggiest. It seems unusual/stupid, but like, the Ascians helped the Hand of the Alacran steal the Sultana's crown to ransom for the Trader's Spurn so like, wtf? We know their "O Mournful voice of creation!" bit from summoning Golems, but they teach mortals (ixali and hyuran thieves) to summon voidsent in the early early MSQ.

Also, why the hell do Gelmorrans have pomanders which transform you into a succubus/manticore? They're decidedly Gelmorran in design (per the Expeditionary) and I was content to write off the voidal presence in Gelmorran ruins to be "Edda did it" but this raises questions. Furthermore, why the hell did Avere lose his gauntlets and never bother to look for them in the morning? Like, no wonder you died man, you were missing a piece of armor. That's a serious VIT loss bro!

Yep that is actually him.

The Palace of the Dead appears to be a type of Limbo for people who died but could not move on to the after life due to their strong dark desires.

It is a place full of NPCs who died but we will not recongnize unless players remember who they are and where they are from and how did they die.

I actually notice a Sword crazy Swordman in the Palace of the Dead only to recongize him to be Leavold from the Gladiator storyline.

it is a bit tricky as it appears the encounters are random. However, it is a nice little hidden gem for those who actually remember these NPCs before they died.

I scanned the NPC listings for Palace of the Dead quickly and found this:

Roughspun Ruffian
Ishgardian Pikeman
Spear-shaking Adventurer
Staff-spinning Adventurer
Sword-swinging Adventurer -- (Leavold?)
Duskwight Lancer -- (Foulques)

I wonder who else is in there... that's a nice eight, which would fit the 8 DoW/M classes at ARR launch

Encountered the Staff-spinning Adventurer - was a Lalafel, as I recall.

Didn't think anything of it, except that it was odd that there would be an enemy that was not beast nor voidsent...and noticed that he said something like "Where am I? Where is everyone?" when we defeated him.
