In all the legends both in FF and irl Cuchulainn was quite handsome. in FF12 he was a esper tasked with consuming all that is vile and putrid in the world, eventually it consumed him and he turned into what we saw in 12.

Irl while never losing his beauty Cuchulainn was well known for his many vices, including battle rages, which in one instance resulted in the death of his own son.

It's possible - Calofisteri used to be a Mhachi citizen, after all - but so far all the other Ulster Cycle namesakes (Scathach, Ferdiad) have been Voidsent summoned by the Mhachi for the War of the Magi, so I think it's more likely that Cuchulainn falls into that category as well. I wouldn't look too closely at what FFXII did for inspiration; so far, there hasn't been much crossover in how the games have used their characters with shared names.

Just look at how they reinterepreted the Warring Triad. Or how Bahamut, Tiamat, and Nidhogg are children of Shinryu Midgardsormr.
