You can already do that via a FC chest.... so if that is the reason, it is a *really* poor one.

I want this very much. Kinda a pain to level up crafting alts and not able to send stuff between myself and alt without inviting my alt to FC

Yes but you need a FC and the access to the FC chest, some players may not have this

FC chests tend to be dumping grounds for people's worthless crap. "I got 5 Jellyfish Cnida in dungeon, not worth selling on the MB for 10 gil each, so I'll dump them in the FC chest because somebody might want them."

Also, unique items can't go into the chest, but can be mailed.

Would be nice if I could add my alt to my main's friend list. Both characters own a medium house, so would make furnishing a lot easier since the main is the crafter.

It would be really nice to have some official word on this.

With the current shortage of housing, allowing us to share our main's house with our alts would be one way of reducing demand as well as being a really positive QoL improvement. We pay extra to have alt characters on the same server, but the present restrictions make having them far less fun than they would be otherwise.

Actually $15 pretty standard sub rate as WoW is also $15 a month so you not really paying extra for any alts, I would actually view it as they giving a person a discount if they decide to only use one character not charging you more for extra characters. XI is where it actually charged you for extra characters.
