You can already do that via a FC chest.... so if that is the reason, it is a *really* poor one.

FC chests tend to be dumping grounds for people's worthless crap. "I got 5 Jellyfish Cnida in dungeon, not worth selling on the MB for 10 gil each, so I'll dump them in the FC chest because somebody might want them."

Also, unique items can't go into the chest, but can be mailed.
