Well, it's not that far-fetched. A6/M2 is already just a boss rush againstBruticus'Brute Justice's limbs; clear one and move onto the next. There's no reason they couldn't employ something similar.
As for Ilberd, while I do expect to see him again I remain unconvinced he will be a major antagonist. We were at odds when last we met but if this is to be a war for Ala Mhigo's liberation... well, I'm not sure what side of the fence we'll end up on in regards to Ilberd.
That's actually why I'm expecting it though.
While we only have one case so far, van Darnus' scheme was a reference to Sephiroth but his/her personality was not. Sephiroth is always cold and reserved, while van Darnus was flamboyant and playful. Their personalities couldn't be more different. Likewise Kekfa is silly but psychotic, while van Hydrus is serious and professional - though I would note he has begun to show some signs of cracking after our latest bout.
To be more direct, I'm not expecting van Hydrus to emulate Kefka 1 for 1 just as van Darnus didn't emulate Sephiroth 1 for 1. Instead I'm expecting him to have some kind of mishap with the Genesis Expression, and for that along with his repeated failures to defeat us and inability to comprehend our viewpoint to cause him to descend into madness. He won't start wearing jester's clothing and lipstick or anything, just go absolutely batshit insane, get coked up on power (i.e. from the Triad), make a floating tower out of the detrius from the Imperial fleet that got wrecked in the Battle of Silvertear Skies, and try to blow everyone and everything to kingdom come with the Light of Judgment (i.e. blowing up Silvertear Lake, which if my hypothesis is correct and it's the wellspring of all aether on Hydaelyn, would outright destroy the world or condemn everything on it to death in a matter of moons).
All highly hypothetical, of course, and I still can't figure out myriad other puzzle pieces. I deduced that Zodiark was plausibly the moon long before 3.0's stinger or 3.2's verbatim confirmation though... so I'm fairly confident in my hypothesis on this matter.
As a side note, Kefka's "Joker"-esque personality is only present in the NA/PAL releases of VI; his original JP portrayal was less funny and more moronic. Still, the humor he added to the game resulted in Kefka being miles more popular internationally than he is in Japan, causing SE to keep those personality traits in Kefka even in ports with redone translations.
