    not only for new players, i think this mode is a fight for the top 100, all the players not fighting for this don't have any reason to queue.
    it include : new players, casuals players but also already well classed players,
    so only players stucked between silver and gold have a good reason for queueing.
    it's why your idea is not wrong,
    why not let all the players get the same gear but the color change if you are ranked higher :
    bronze gear
    silver gear
    gold gear
    platinium gear
    diamond gear
    it can be the same gear with different color till you reach gold, and shining gear for platinium and diamond.
