FFXIV 2nd expansion: Viera-like race still a possibility?

I could go for something like this, but I doubt we'd get hooves. If anything we'd end up with playable Padjal, with the addition of a tail. Still, I'd be okay with it.

And that's the main issue with races in this game.
No matter how hard we ask for something different, Vieras, Ronso, satyr, we'll never get what we really want because they wont' revamp the actual stuff to make it wearable by the new class :/
At best we'll get human with a new set of ears / tail :/

To be fair they -could- make it work with Satyr by making boots not appear on them... but then that's a race that no longer requires an entire glamor customization slot for gear. Which depending on how you look at it, is either an unfair advantage over other races, "Why don't they have to spend more to have their sets match?!" Or a downside, "I don't get to customize my footwear, I'm stuck with these ugly hooves forever!"

Because all you said was 'Lalafell with a beard.' This puts the image of the current Lalafell, their face included (and severe lack of muscle, knees or any adult looking form) into my head and all I get is some child wearing a fake beard. If you said "short/compressed Roegadyn-Highlander hybrid" (though we have no idea what a Roegadyn-Highlander hybrid could potentially look like, so...), then I would have thought more heavily on it and accept the hypocrite accusation.

That said, female Roegadyn do have a muscle slider. You can choose to have 'smooth' skin.

I would also like a mature race with tall females, who are not she hulks but have agile muscles. The thing is, none of the artwork about Viera suggests it is such a race. None. The face a few pages back looks just as young as Miqo'te, and the full body pictures show them just as skinny and weak as Elezen. Show that they can be grown up and fit and you'll have a better chance at convincing people they're not a Miqo'zen hybrid.

Something like that was done a long time ago in Morrowind and despite not being able to wear boots, I still enjoyed my argonian and still consider Morrowind to be the best ESG ever. Those digitigrade legs were awesome and brought a lot of richness to the world in a way. At least for me. It's a shame that nowadays, game devs are extremely lazy.

I think calling it laziness is a discourtesy. Thematically human races are what we play. We're pitted against Beast Tribes, typically. Then there are limitations with the PS3 to consider as well. I'd rather have 3 new races that fit the theme of the game and are easily added, than 1 new race that is radically different just to be different.

Think its a little of both really but, you point out something important there. In game we play as "man", when we speak with the beast tribes primals or the dragons we're always referred to as daughter or son of man. This is actually a key point here as it pretty much limits the hell out of races that could be added to just humans(hyur, elezen) and demihumans(Miqo'te, Au'ra). Primarily because beast tribes are not considered of man while every playable race is. To have a playable race not of man would basically break the story throughout the game. At the very least it's something they would have to strongly think on before implementing.

SE is known for changing dialogue, even for the tiniest of details (right down to clans). I believe there's a Miqo'te NPC in North Shroud (probably others, but she's the only one I recall) who drags out her 'rrr' sounds for most races, however, if you're the same clan as her (I think), she talks normally.
