I don't do this, but I know people who do. They do it to make the queues shorter, which is fair enough if you're gonna use auto translate.
I don't have a problem with people that do it unless they refuse to use auto translate, just rude not to IMO.

~Quit moping, get hoping~
I agree with the hi/bye thing. I play on an NA server and I always at least greet people at the start of a run. I also tend to say something like "good job" or "thank you" at the end.
If I were playing on a Japanese data center, I would probably make a pair of auto-translate macros for this, since while I don't understand Japanese I would be all but forced to queue with J enabled in language settings in order to not have absurdly long queue times.

Dancer is a physical hybrid melee/range class, not a true ranged class. I love it.
I know this post comes from page 1, but I can't get over the irony when I see that the selected world for that player is Moogle, the "unofficial french server".I que for all languages besides french.
1. Because I can't speak nor understand french, and they usually don't or refuse to speak english.
2. Because 90% of the french players I've been in a group with are terrible players. (no offence, I know there are good frenchies out there too :P)
Sooo ya :3

I think this is possibly the best attitude to take on the situation. Especially to prevent issues like this:For me it is simple. If im queuing for a dungeon/trial/raid where i know every tactic "by heart" then i choose every language. Not difficult to write "hi" at the beginning and something like "bye/merci/danke..." at the end. when Im queing for something where i do think that there might be needed proper tactic communication then i choose a language that i can communicate properly. My main language doesnt exist in the game so...
I'm sorry, but that was just rude of that person. One of my LS friends was in Tam Tara Deepcroft (Hard). She had queued for a Japanese language group. One person had never been in there before and only spoke English. This person did not know the strategy for the first boss and killed the adds. My friend tried to explain in Japanese first, but the other person couldn't understand. She then tried to explain in broken English, but the person still couldn't understand. They wiped at the first boss 3 times. They eventually voted to abandon the dungeon.

Rude? Nearly every team I get speaks English, and in most cases, they deliberately remain silent the whole time. One time, I even got vote kicked out of an instance simply because I typed a few sentences. I'd take a real reason for being silent towards me, than a stupid one, any day.
I honestly don't care what the player speaks, be it purely foreign to my eyes or in broken English. It has nothing to do with the player's actual skill.
