You're comparing two games that are based on two completely different models, then citing the fact that, in your opinion, running the same content for three years is somehow superior to having content that offers equipment in a vertical progression system more easily accessible to a wide player base.

You're biased, it's all right. The majority of the people in this thread championing an outdated game and complaining for all of these throwback archaic ideas are. Remember how great 1.0 was? No? Because it had a bunch of the things people seem to be asking for. XI was good while it lasted, but saying it was a better game for reasons not present in any current MMO model due to them being outdated seems counterintuitive. You're also discounting that all "old" content from FFXIV is completely worthless, so the glamour, materials, mounts, orchestrion rolls, etc. have been deemed completely worthless to you, but to some it's a valid reason to complete the content. Or roulette rewards. Or running it with friends. Or generally trying to enjoy the game without picking it apart because it isn't just XI. The thing you'll have to concede is that while XI "made content relevant for 3 years" is due to the fact that "horizontal" gear progression was a technicality. There was just a great weapon, like the Kraken Club, locked behind something. The only difference is that generally in XIVthey put it behind new content. They put Aether Oils to upgrade the Anima weapon in the CT Raids. Is that not enough? They made a large scale quest with twelve different methods of completion including all Beast Tribes from 2.X, Alexander Midas, and the ARR Hunts. What do you want? How do you propose we make content more relevant than it actually is when you aren't being completely oblivious to it? Can you not rationalize that no matter where they put the best weapon it will still be the best weapon?

This entire thread is a long, drawn out post by the same people over and over and over again making apples-to-oranges comparisons to games that, quite frankly, if they were released now as an alternative would fail. Functional suggestions work, but citing ideas that are nothing more than old ideas from FFXI are hardly functional. I'm not saying the game is perfect. We all get a little tired or lazy sometimes, we all get stuck with an Aurum Vale in Roulette that makes you want to claw your eyes out. Difference is after it's over we don't run to the Forum and s***post about how everything was so awesome ten years ago. Y'know, when there were like 3 options. Take a break. If you want this game to be XI, it's not going to. Hope 4.0 brings about some exciting changes that will rekindle your love for it, or drive you away forever. Your missing dollars are a functional catalyst for change, not asking for archaic content.
