Guild Wars 2 does a lot of things right, instead of trying to copy paste WoW devs should start to look at some GW2 ideas, i just don't play it anymore because the expansion came late and it's becoming dated (graphics).
>-> I'll take that as a compliment.
The sad truth is everyone wants "this" or "that" never wanting to "earn" it. The first final fantasy online god forbid if you ever died after just leveling up. You are being fed with a golden spoon in this one. People continue to compare companies to ones that have been doing it way the heck longer. I would say Blizzard support is second to none because I can literally contact and have a 1:1 conversation with a GM in a heartbeat. AT the same time I lost all respect playing WoW when they just GAVE people max level characters just for buying the game. This is coming from someone who played where a few hrs only gave you a hand full of exp. Grinding Would be the term.
Where here you have more flexibility, I've swapped and level another class in a heart beat just to get to a dungeon/raid I still get the same odds of finding my gear I need for my other class.
If you can't find a reason to log on, then you simply don't log on. And sometimes I think people expect full blown expansions with the release of a patch. I'm new to FFXIV, but have a couple other MMOs under my belt including FFXI, and it is nearly always the same for vet players who are fed up.
I think nostalgia is the biggest culprit here. I feel the vet players continuously seek out the experiences they had when they were new players, but this just isn't possible. You can take breaks, and even play another MMO for a while. You will do so to no avail. You are only a new player once. You can experience the game's content for the first time only one time, and there is so much fun in learning how things go. And the suggestions that are often given are frowned upon because most are basically asking for a new game, or the current game to contort to their standards.
That doesn't make it ok for designers to remain complacent with the vets, and I can't really speak to say if they are or not. But I do know that if the above statement applies, then it is perfectly understandable why it is so difficult to sustain the enjoyment in playing the game.
Not defending SE necessarily, but what magical solution do you have for them? They try shaking up the usual formula here and there. Changing how everything is too much will very likely not end very well. You can tell they are trying to throw new things in rather if they are a success or not. During 3.0 we have gotten Diadem, Aquapolis, and the upcoming Palace of the Dead.
You shouldn't be asking for them to change up the entire formula, because lets be honest, it is fine and I don't think most here want to see the formula change. You should instead keep giving ideas for new content that works in the context of this game. It is silly to say they are not trying to shake things up a bit. It hasn't worked in their favor each time, but they are trying at least.
Not to mention, it is hard to break formula when your community expects a major patch from you every 3-4 months. I do question a lot of decisions they make, but I understand why they develop the way they do. Just they do not balance the content and community very well at all.
Not really. When you get an expension pack or a DLC you expect NEW content, not copy paste. What did they add that's different than 2xx content and I talk about things we do, that's different? Diadem, it sounded amazing on paper, flying to a spot and fight with your fc but no, it went to shit. I like they did try but grinding like that for a small reward wasn't worth it. Ofc burnt out also means doing the same shit again and again which we all know happened since 2xx

I figured new classes and a story would be considered content.
something other than going in and turning in Allagan tomestones of Verb at rowena's desk(s) for umpteenth time for the material armor of adjective would be a nice start.

You probably know as much as I do as that some of their new content, for the lack of a better word, sucks. I'm not going to fault them for trying out something new, but a lot of the faults that come from Diadem and Feast boils down to being overly ambitious with what they wanted it to be, combined with a lack of foresight and planning to make it work in the first place. Like, they made no changes to how queuing works in a party, did they genuinely believe that a ranked ladder would function without changing it (let alone solo queue matching you with new players on your team to "balance" it) Likewise with job performance (such as WM/GB giving a 20% damage boost at the cost of autos...when autos made up for roughly 17~23% of your dps in the first place). In that sense, I really feel like they're "trying" in all the wrong places and missing the major aspect of what needed to be done.Not defending SE necessarily, but what magical solution do you have for them? The release of the expansion felt like it failed in the proverbial planting of seeds for new content (such as the execution of crafting/gathering scrips, and FC airship and crafting), and the result is that the content, while seemingly new, falls onto the same repetition of killing mobs that have no interesting gimmicks to it (even aquapolis falls to this once you get past the rewards and RNG)
