It'll give the FFXIV-lifers something to do instead of complaining there's nothing to do! Aka: kill lowbies, smack helpless NPCs whose only job in the world is to be right-click bait for the MSQ, shout in zones 30+ levels below them to antagonize other players... are you seeing a trend here?

Structured, instanced PvP is fine, it lets you scratch that itch and do so in a "fair" setting.

World PvP is really just a way for bored players who capped their tomes in 3 hours on Tuesday morning to have something to do the other 6.5 days of the week... at the expense of other players (which is WAY against the atmosphere Square tries to establish...).

Then it wouldn't fit any MMO with it.

Obviously it would be an PvP dedicated server.

Maybe, but Yoshi said he wants it to happen, i'm sure they can come up with something.

I'd only support this if there were serious anti-gank measures in place. Can't attack anyone 5 levels lower than you OR 30 item levels lower than you if they're within that 5-level range...something like that. I actually enjoy PVP (me and my mates used to top the Primal Frontlines leaderboards), but for too many there's a lot of enjoyment in making other people miserable and disrupting their play, and I don't think our community needs that.

In this game it could work by:

    - Limit the lvl of gankers to max of 10 or 15 levels above who they want to gank, if above that they can't engage the target
    - Add a new map with the purpose of high end pvp to the world map (PvP server only)
    - Making DoL invulnerable to ganks (not DoH, those shouldn't even be in maps crafting, sty in cities or sanctuary areas)
    - Having specific areas, such as sanctuary areas and players inside it being invulnerable to ganking
    - Place a bounty on gankers, as an incentive of others around the map to want and go find the ganker, upon ganker defeat he would lose ganker status (could be an icon)
    - PvP Server would enforce team and party play rather than being alone, for obvious reasons

    There's a lot of options.

You do know there are people who protect low levels right? Every game I've played where there was open world PvP, I would sit there and wait for high levels to come and attack the low levels. When they came, I would kill them over and over again until they left the low levels alone. They bring friends? No problem, I'll kill their buddy too. I'm sure there are others who have done the same thing.

Consider this: We can barely get people to queue for the current PvP modes as is. . . What makes you think creating a dedicated open world map would suddenly kindle flames in players to go PvP? Add to that, it would only further cripple the current modes, which ARE actually entertaining (for those that don't know or haven't tried).

As it stands, open world PvP would go just as avoided/ignored as current modes, and only the people that already enjoy it might try it, which would only pull us all away from current modes. For others, if it were a means of equipping gear/switching statuses/changing to or from targetable jobs, most simply wouldn't make themselves a target. . . The idea is not bad. It's just REALLY impractical right now.

This, i was ganked a lot back when Aion was paid (i never reached max level because it died and went F2P), i would warn in chat and all the high levels would come help and kill the invader, when i got to level 40 (not max) i started to help low levels instead of leveling, it was fun and i felt rewarded for doing it.

I've added few things to the main post about how it could work so it's not very punishing.

Please don't compare open world pvp with what we have, it's just not the same, open world PVP wouldn't imply GC barriers like we have now, there would be no queues, sorry but this is a dumb argument.

It didn't happen with any open world pvp game i've played, why would it happen with FFXIV?

I've edited the main post with some ideas.

Probably because SE thought grand companies is the only way to PvP. Unless your friends you want on a team are in the same GC you won't play with them. The current modes are kind of lame. Frontlines tends to be more tolerable to me than wolves den. There is strategy involved more so than in the arena which tends to be way more chaotic and is brief if duration. Field PvP without the stupid grand company nonsense could help bring people back into PvP content. Until they get rid of this, I will continue to be separated from the ones I want to play with.
