Looks like someone forgot all tanks share armor, Summoner and Black Mage share Armor, and all Healers share armor with the only thing excluded being the Iconic Armor sets.

Sam will obviously not be sharing the Dragoon's Iconic armor but share the mail armor types.

Ninja and Monk only got separated because they used different base stats being Dex and Str.

Real factor that this hinges on is what classification does SE hinge on when developing new jobs. Could be primary stat, but it could just as easily be basic role (tank/heal/dps) or enhanced role (tank/heal/melee/ranged/caster) or some other classification that is either known to the players or even some internal marker only known among the devs.

We know what's being requested. Red Mage, Blue Mage and Samurai are all jobs requested to be implemented, yet this is also their biggest hurdle as many of these requests come from veterans of XI who will likely complain because these job XIV incarnations will not be the same as what they knew from their "good ol' days". Other requested jobs such as Dancer will have difficulty in application of a support-type concept being placed into the current role trinity, while other jobs like Time Mage likely won't see action in XIV simply due to having applicable concepts from them implemented in other jobs (in the case of Time Mage, see Astrologian).

We know, more or less, the regions that 4.0 will most likely take us and that the story drawn from a particular region can sometimes be reflected in a particular job. Although we already have Monk reflecting one facet of Ala Mhigo, there is still the technological aspect of the former city-state and likely something that would set it apart from the Magitek theme of the Garleans. Included in this would also likely be Xelphatol, a region where not much is known beyond it being filled with canyons and being the homeland of the Ixal. Although we may not reach Garlemald in 4.x, we will likely still reach their doorstep by the end of the expansion.

Lastly, we know that there will most likely be a repeated release pattern of one tank, one healer and one damage dealer. However, this is a more unfamiliar situation in that we might know more about what jobs are coming up than what roles they might be. Although Samurai has been known to XI players as a tank based on some merits now somewhat recognizable in Dark Knight, Samurai could be either a tank or a dps depending on whether the dev team follows the traditional image of the armored shogun held by the playerbase or instead follows Yoshi-P's idea of the lightly-garbed swordmaster. As the jack-of-all-trades of the FF series, Red Mage is even trickier to pin a role on as it could realistically fit any role given to it.

In the end, what do I speculate? Well, a Samurai that would disappoint XI veterans, a Red Mage style that no one would predict, and a freshly made job that incorporates ideas from other requested job concepts.

What I want is a bit more in depth than just names of jobs. What I want probably fits most as a Red Mage, so let's go with that. I'd like them to be a bit original and make a Melee/Ranged Physical/Magic dps job. Maybe use like a rapier as physical melee, then have a stance dance rotation where it ends up ranged and magic damage.

I thought they got rid of the class model and are just making anything new it's own job with cross abilities from the existing classes.

I still think that a Fencer Job would be much better for the game at the moment. It's a solid dps job that could be done easily and they have the data from Bravely Second to make it.

But from what i see of all of you, you want jobs with so many gimiks in just one job that it would make SE's life hard to create them.

    • Red Mage: You want this class as it was originaly, a Melee Dps/Magic Dps/Healer/Tank, where in this game, every job is one specific Role, so big no there.
    • Blue Mage: Its a nice idea, but think of it like this, it would mean they remove the main thing of Blue Mages, getting the monster's abilities, since this game runs on set abilities for each class/Job, it would remove that pleasure of getting each ability and making abilities that end up being useless. This would work with Job Quests but... its not the same freedom.
    • Samurai: I can't see them making Samurai without it being turned into a Tank... Samurai to me is Counter based, thus making it a Tank, and making it a DPS wouldn't make it classic... Though i would love to see it in game.
    • Morpher: No... just... no... They would add Beast Master before they even think of this one...

So please guys, think of a Job/Class that would be popular with normal gimiks, that way it will make them easier to make them.

One idea I have in my head would be to introduce Flayer/Whip user/trainer as a new pet class which focused on commanding it's pet through whipping, and then have it branch into Beast master and Summoner. It might be messy but that would be cool and a lot of Summoners would love that. Kind of like a alternate chi user who unlocks new potential in their pet through the whip.

Very good and informative post. I agree with pretty much all of your points, except RDM fitting any of the three roles. With such a strict trinity system and them being so big on the lore, I can't see RDM as anything other than a Hybrid Melee/Magic Support DPS. For me, that's the only way to convert a jack-of-all-trades type of job into FFXIV.
