They already stated they aren't doing something like that after they didn't like how the way SCH and SMN worked turned out.I doubt something like this would come around in 4.0 but I would like to see an adjustment to the job system where you choose based on your preference what path you'll take. For example, if you play Marauder you would be given the choice to take the Warrior (tank) path or the Berserker's (DPS) path. They could apply similar choices to each job to allow for a much wider variety of job options without needing to actually add new jobs. Just something I would like to see added down the road.
Some skills took forever to learn in FF XI.

If we look at the proportions of the classes, and what SE has done up til now and where the story will lead to, we can predict a little.
3 tanks, 3 healers and 7 dps
I'd start with the tanks or healers.
Then next step, what has SE already done? The samurai is already done to be implemented. A visitor from doma could just clear that, since we have connections for this possibility.
What could be a healer then? The surgeon could be a completely new healer class, with syringes crafted by perhaps a cooperation of the Chemist guild master and the garlond metal works.
A DPS should be red mage from ala mhigo or a traveling swashbuckler or a new class guild for the ishgardian nobility, since they want to share their knowledge now or something.
Red Mage's origins is going to be a bit difficult currently to identity as not many places in Eorzea looks like it would match the Job's origin's yet.
Ala mhigo is already established as the origin place of the Monks and the Monk Orders had a large influence within Ala Mhigo society serving as the Royal Guards of Ala Mhigo and as a Powerful Organization before the Garlean Empire took over Ala Mhigo and nearly wiped out the Monk Orders.
For Example, a lot of people thought the origin for Astologian's Magic would have been Ishgard due to how players meet Astro NPC from ishgard before 3.0 but instead the origin of Astro's Magic is Sharlayan and the Astro knowledge in Ishgard is only just stargazing to predict movement of the Dragon Horde. It was not until Astro Magic was introduced to Ishgard in the Astro job Storyline when Ishgard became aware that Astro Magic existed.

There's plenty of available options for a RDM origin. They can be tied to Ala Mhigo as combining spells with melee combat is fitting for them. The visual style of RDM fits right at home with something hailing from Sharlayan as well. It also doesn't rule out the potential from them coming from Thavnair either, as we've encountered many scholars from there as well.

I had an interesting idea about them being like wirch hunters that arose after the flood calamity between mhach amdapor and nym, with that witch/vampire hunter looking motif. To me it does look a bit sharlayan, or a cross between gridania and coerthas, i dont know much about gyr abania, but its directly east sandwiched between both, idk how the culture/attire there would be but it could definately be inspired by being close to both,

Late to the discussion, but excited at the prospects of Samurai, Red Mage, and/or Blue Mage being added. Any idea if previous classes from other games, such as Holy Knight from FFT would be considered?

If they want to avoid redundancy, than Holy Knights (what I assume most people see Paladins as) is unlikely since Paladins' shtick is being holy knights, and the PLDs of this game have that kind of aesthetic and closer deceptions of this archtype are found only in Ishgard, one of whom was murdered and a dozen of them were villains (with one being responsible for the aforementioned murder), and the rest are referred to as "Dragoons", which are associate with lances (And no, odds are that "Holy Dragoons" won;t be implemented bar using Kain's After Years armor as an AF-X [x being 3 or higher] armor for DRG)
Outside of the Jobs you mentioned in your posts the other jobs I know can be worked in without little trouble are Spellblade, Geomancer, Dancer (Chemist is also possible, though an earlier post here has my thoughts on its probability, as a clarification I would see it as unlikely until they release the Gunblade job), and depending on how they handle the weapon, the Sage class.
Adding the Holy Sword set of spells to Paladin would certainly be nice. As is, the Paladins in this game don't have the "holy knight" thing going on, needs more holy themed spells, more about smiting the wicked and things like that. Not only that, but the sword magic spells from FFT (Holy Sword, Dark Sword, and Mighty Sword) have been woefully underutilized in the series as a whole.
2.0 SCH (Healer), SMN (cDPS)
2.4 NIN (mDPS)
3.0 DRK (Tank), AST (Healer), MCH (rDPS)
3 Tanks [PLD, WAR, DRK]
3 Healers [WHM, SCH, AST]
2 cDPS [BLM, SMN]
2 rDPS [BRD, MCH]
3 mDPS [MNK, DRG, NIN]
I think a caster/mage-type dps is due for an addition at least. They haven't added one of those in a while.
