I just find it weird that monks are left beeing the only one without a real utility so they must be entitled the best DPS.
Honestly, I think it's time (whenever the new expansion comes out) to bite the bullet and actually make a support role. They're too attached to the Holy trinity. I can't see a class like Red Mage falling into anything but that category without completely removing what makes the class iconic-- the mix of melee, damage spells and support spells. They'd end up as glorified healers or something again like they were in FFXI.

Though at the same time, the Red Mage would be the best excuse by which to fracture that trinity enough to give us more options and get us out of certain stale gameplay molds.

Agreed. I wouldn't even mind if they want to introduce Samurai as a DPS class and then two support classes next expansion-- like Red Mage and Dancer.

Would be nice, something like what rift do (they save a spot for a support role in dungeon queue) or alone the line of the evrquest franchise (they don,t have a random queue but some class are clearly tagged as heavy support and average support in their class deffinition). Basicaly DPS tier are spllited from pure DPS, medium support, heavy support, tank then healer.

Red mage would fit nicely in the support spot.

Guys, while I highly doubt anyone would want Samurai to be a DPS more than me, we have to realize that SE has already planned it to be a tank. Back when Heavensward was announced along with the three new jobs, the topic of the new tank job was brought up many times.

YoshiP, the man himself, said when they first started to brainstorm ideas for a new tank, many jobs were on the list of potential candidates. Some were quickly scratched off, while others remained on the list for a good long while. Just days before they officially announced DRK, YoshiP said that there were actually two jobs still on the list, and that the team had a very hard time deciding between the two; Dark Knight and Samurai. This means that BOTH jobs had an extremely fleshed out kit as tanks. Hell, even the day DRK was officially announced, audio files for Samurai were seen on the sound director's PC during the stage show. This means Samurai went extremely deep into development before they finally settled on DRK as our new tank.

If they were that happy with the idea of Samurai as a tank, even going so far as to be undecided till mere days before the announcement, then it makes reason stare to suggest that they would throw all that away for all future content. It is EXTREMELY likely that Samurai will not only be a tank, but it will almost assuredly be our next tank in the next expansion.

They also said that DRK was supposed to be a DPS and SAM a tank, but because another eastern job was recently released, and DRK felt more into the mood for Heavensward, they decided to swap those jobs. So, since DRK ended as a tank, it's fair to assume that SAM will be a DPS.

We already have two 2hander tank and not a single DPS using swords. Square would be making a huge mistake by introducing SAM as a tank IMO. Also 4 tanking class for 3 melee DPS seems like out of balance to me for a MMO but thats just my opinion.

mudra type skill sets are already a headache for even JP side from what im reading on their forums so if it goes like that id definitely want some of the xi store TP and zanshin effects (as one of the popular traits were that they could multi self WS)

and as history is, sam is technically multi weapon with katana, polearm, and especially archery x_x those would be nice to have as optionals for sam

What would stop people from just spamming the first attack if it has the highest potency?

Yeah, even if they gave incentives to chain combos with utility skills, it would get boring spamming one high potency attack over and over. Trust me, it's so annoying when bad RNG hits you as a MCH. This would be similar.

I could see them doing maybe a reverse TP thing, where they build up TP before unleashing more powerful attacks. The biggest issue I can see is balancing it so that they aren't completely left behind in burst damage, though.
