So basically, these items will be around as long as players allow (i.e. they don't NPC, trash, or convert them). Are they no longer being sold by NPCs or given as quest/leve rewards?

Either way, this is exciting news. Must be they have a whole lot of new gear in the works.

10/14/11 - FFXIV community civil war erupts. "I'm paying and the game is gonna be awesome." VS. "I'm leaving and the game is gonna die." Let the battles begin!

You are correct, they'll still be around as long as people have the means to make them or hoard them.

I believe most of the gear now sold by NPCs is all 'new', and doesn't carry the 'dated' signature.

I haven't done any leves where gear rewards are offered; however, dated items are still the manufacturing points of local leves. I think part of this is because the new leve system still isn't fully in-place, and why we have no new leves yet. Whether this means dated gear rewards via battle leves will be available is up to someone else to answer.

And i'm not sure if you caught the post a few days ago, but for crafting changes alone (not including new items) you can see it's quite extensive:

In addition, the Lodestone synthesis recipes now contain everything from 1-60, and there's a lot of new stuff there as well.

"You don't stop playing when you get old, you get old when you stop playing!"

Punctuation is your friend. It deliniates the difference between "Let's eat, Grandma!" and "Let's eat Grandma!"
