Well put, but Square has always been about their Japanese player base first and for most with almost everyone of their games, if the Japanese players are happy with Housing plots we won't have a fix/solution/BASIC INFORMATION for months if not years.

I've been trying too get a medium plot on my server for 2 years, but the only option right now is too try and find a lower populated server and pray that anything is available and that honestly isn't worth 20 bucks.

I used to manage a free WoW server. A player base of around 10,000 only took up around 100gb. That's nothing with today's storage options.

Well part of the problem is they add the same number of houses/wards to each server but the lower pop servers have houses left over and the higher ones sell out in 5-15 mins

It could be that player housing is operating exactly as intended. There are incentives for people to transfer to Balmung (RPers) and Gilgamesh (Raid server) but very little incentive for them to leave. Once you're here, you have active PFs, active players doing most things in the game, a decent economy. Why would you leave? The only drawback is having to wait an extra minute to get through a queue of 20 people when you log on in peak hours. Housing may be the mechanism that SE implements to get people to actually transfer out of these servers considering all the other servers seem to have adequate housing for their demands. There really are no other player driven mechanisms for character redistribution and with housing being a thing, it is unlikely that SE will be able to merge servers at any point, thus they kind of need a way to get players to move from high pop servers to low pop servers and homogenize the populations a bit.

Regarding the housing issue- why not just limit the housing to 1 house per FC and 1 personal house per player? This completely solves the issue of one person or one FC buying up all the plots to sell for ridiculous prices later, and honestly why would anybody *need* more than one house? When and if the housing issue is every resolved they could lift the restrictions for people who *want* multiple homes for whatever reason.

By that logic. They would have to release houses 2777.7 times in order to supply everyone subscribed a house or even a close chance at getting one. If we get houses added once a year/every three patches it would take 2777.7 years to get that done. That's at a peek time of 2million subscribers. lets say you have a drop off of 1 million subscribers, or 50%. Doing the math here. 720 goes into 1,000,000 1388.88 times. It would then take them 1388.88 years to supply enough houses. The system is flawed. There needs to be better solutions.

Didn't the funds get spent on moving some of the servers to europe?

I think one thing that could alleviate the problem of housing is to not make so much of the content revolve around it. So many events where the majority of rewards were housing decorations, not taking into account that few even have decorating rights in their FCs, and the rewards for those without houses just seem like its not worth the trouble. They do seem to be a little better about it, and those with housing would like new features, but I think SE needs to be aware that they should level it out a bit so not everyone feels left out. Chocobo training should be able to be done outside of housing. Dying them should be available outside of housing. Airships should be available outside of housing. Housing can be a nice thing to have, but when you make many of the games features exclusive to FC housing, you're really creating a bigger problem out of the one that already exists.

I've heard that before as well. However, I feel that's a pretty horrible excuse. Unless this game is doing a lot worse than it seems, then surely adding another server or 2 with a ton of capacity wouldn't break their bank. Hell they could probably get away with charging a one time fee of say $20 to purchase an account wide plot and make the money back.

Every single person gets a house is a bit unrealistic.

And are you going to volunteer to move to this brand new server? Because they can't just tack another server on on the side and magically have more space on, say, Balmung...each server is its own self-contained world, so 'adding a new server' would only help if people were willing to move.

While I won't defend SE's obviously poor data storage techniques, most of the 'housing crisis' is because people all crowd onto a handful of servers and then complain about the problems this overcrowding causes. There were still plots available on Adamantoise a few months ago when I took a stroll around my ward...not many, and maybe not in the choicest locations, but they were there. People move for RP and raid and all sorts of things...if you're that desperate for a house, why not move for that?
