Completely missed the point, being that it's unfair to anyone not able to be on when the servers come up since they'll all be scooped up fast like each other time there's been new houses.
The system itself isn't intrinsically unfair; it's unfair because of the practicality that means your window of opportunity of buying is very limited because of the supply.
What SE needs to do is make it where you can only own one house per server per account(all characters you have on that server can use the house)
I'm fairly sure that the dev's know what they are doing here. At first I had thought it was some oversight to make them so cheap. But I don't think this has never really been about fixing the housing problem. It's a system that is becoming harder and harder to fix. Making them cheaper and making it a mad dash just puts everyone on a even playing field like people have said. What's the reason for doing this? I'd suggest it's to get people to resub so they get a whack at it. It's just a large lottery to get people interested in playing again. And sure, some people will get more than one house the way things stand, but they will have to move quick! Everything is going to be gone in under 10minutes. Good luck even logging in after maintenance really. Log in server is going to get hammered by people trying to log in to spend their gil on a cheap house and the server might crash. It's kind of a publicity stunt I guess. Now if someone doesn't get a house, it's not because there aren't any. It's because they didn't win the lottery... Lady luck didn't smile on them I guess...
Easy fix: make the housing fully instanced instead of wards. everyone can have a house. maybe leave free company housing to wards. (like BDO for example). But then they complain on not having enough data to handle it..
This doesnt solve anything. The rich kids will still buy out all the houses. Whether ingame money or real money.
There's also the matter of Gardening. Airships at least require a FC, but Gardening is limited to the lucky few that owned a house. I feel like there shoul be an option for people that want to garden but are too luckly to own a house or be part of an FC that does.
Thats what I kinda had in mind. Wards should be kept to Free Company and have instanced personal housing
I know people who share account with people under the same house irl. Because they play it slow, so they toogle on who can play or not. And also housing is suposed to be somewhat exlusive,no? And a huge gil sink.
