Why isn't housing priced higher? (why is housing random luck)

There is a lot of demand for housing, yet very limited supply.
In this situation, it would make sense to price the housing very high, so people have an opportunity to work towards it (e.g. 150-200mil for a large house).

Instead, housing prices have been dropped to a point where pretty well everyone can afford them. As a result, upon release of 3.3 there will be a mad rush for houses. Everything will be sold within minutes. And people will probably rage about how they didn't sleep for 10 hours or missed work for nothing.

Why not allow people to get houses through effort, rather than sheer luck, or ability to sit around for 10-15 hours camping a login server?

Or, create a bidding system for housing.
Or, create a random drawing for housing.

The current system just seems unfair, and poorly thought out.

unfair would be giving such an advantage to people who RMT.

i was surprised that they lowered the prices but they definitely should not be increased.

if RMT is an issue why not just make 1 or 2 wards where you buy houses through the mogstation. E.g. $150 for a large, $75 for a medium, $50 for a small. That cuts out the RMT, and gives people who want to spend IRL money an opportunity to do so.

That would be awesome. I would pay for it if I could get a house plot thorugh the mog station.

I don't understand why the lower prices are making people lose their minds. If SE didn't lower the starting price the ultra rich players would just buy up all of the plots immediately anyway. At least with the lower prices Joe Nobody has a [low] chance of grabbing a plot instead of being priced out from the start. There are a lot of issues with the housing system, but the lower prices are a step in the right direction.

Considering the OP is from Balmung and is complaining about the price being too low, I'm going to assume has a ton of gil...and wants to get rid of competition

I think his point was you could TRY to buy that many, but if someone got there before you... then they would get it not you. When it is cheaper there are more people able to make a dash for the plots.

I totally agree. Don't really get the reasoning behind it. They need to fix housing but not by making people pay more.
