From what I've been told, with less members on at a time the more the stuff you do is worth.
Member count doesn't give a significant boost to your credits earned.

Haven't really tested it myself though, it's hard to know when many people will log out sometimes lol!

This is true. The less people you have on the more points you get for things.

If you're on solo, you get double everything.

This is true. FC with lower, but highly active number of players will outpace, if not equal larger FCs. It's SE's way of allowing small FCs to compete with large FCs. Higher rankings allow you access to FC benefits, SE doesn't want to lock out smaller family-oriented guilds from it. Although in a sense, it also gives incentive for certain wealthy crafters and players to own their own FC.

They're not talking about rank 1-8 that give access to housing, FC buffs, etc.

They are talking about server FC rankings, listing which FC got the most FC points last week/month for the server.
