Your logic is flawed. Like I said before, there is a difference between fun time sinks, and unnecessary and unintuitive time sinks. Hunting for items from retainers =/= fighting mobs.

I'm glad you love the market wards. Please, have fun running around your forest of slow-loading NPCs. All I'm saying is that a more user-friendly option MUST be available if this game is to succeed. Because right now it doesn't work, and it will never work as the primary means of buying and selling goods.

    What are you, five?

    Go home.

    Edit:
Done responding if you don't have an intelligent argument to debate. I've made my point.

ok no need to be sarcastic and i am sorry for that but how is running around for 10 mins in a market ward, any different than a run from a lvl 20 camp to a lvl 30 camp ?? or lets say u have no anima left so you got to run from a city
to a camp. you don't see ppl complaining the world is to big its a time sink? and yes it is the same, coz you can easy go 10 mins with no mob to kill

The difference is that when most people want to go shopping, they want to get in, get out, and go back to enjoying the game.

How many offline games have you played where you are forced to talk to five, ten, one hundred different NPCs to maybe find what you're looking for? There's a reason that there's an "armor shop" a "weapon shop" and an "item shop" in most RPGs. Wading through NPCs to find what you want, then going back to a counter so that you can search again for another item that you want is not what people are going to be PAYING MONEY to play this game for, and they certainly won't be paying for this game at all if the retainers are all we have at launch.

To look at it from an outside perpective - the system got smashed by critics at launch, and so far the only thing that's changed is that we can search for items, now. Do you really think that will win it critical acclaim? And if buying and selling weapons is a mark against the game to the critics, the game will lose potential subscriptions (after all, half of the reason people play an MMO is for teh uber gears). It is in everyone's best interest that a better alternative to the wards is implemented.

now sir it is you who is being silly?? how many retainers do you talk to before you get the item you want. i only ever talk to the retainer that has th item i want. the search page tells me how much the item is and where to find it. afther going to the right ward (which is indicated on the search page) its just a case of finding the right retainer with the star above it head. its really nt hard

It's harder than it ought to be.

First, you have to figure out which ward would normally have the item you want to buy, and even that's not always straightforward.

You want to buy a seashell? Would it be considered something you fish up? Grocer's Ward? Nope. Let's see. Goldsmiths work with bone, maybe it's something they'd use. Ironmonger's Ward? Nope. Maybe it's a miscellaneous item for Alchemists? Chirugeon's Ward (because everyone knows what "chirugeon" means)? Nope. It's actually in the Tanner's Ward, because when you think seashell, you think leather. Makes. Perfect. Sense.
Then you once you get that sorted out, you get a list of Retainers and the Ward they are in. But it's all too easy to look at the price, think to yourself that you'd be willing to pay it, select that you want to put red stars on retainers selling that item which closes the search window, and at that point, you remember that the retainer probably isn't selling the item in the proper ward.

So then, you have to perform the item search again to get the name of the ward that the retainer you want to buy from is standing in.

Then you choose to teleport to the ward and play "find the retainer." Well, it turns out more than one retainer is selling the item, in the wrong ward, and since you didn't take the time to note the gibberish name, you'll just have to click on all of them until you find the one with the right price.

Congrats. Now you've bought one thing. If you want anything else, you'll have to repeat the process, ad nauseum.

    Now, for selling.

To do that, you have to take a retainer "off-line" so that your storage is no longer going to accessible except at the exact Ward you're going to drop it off in. I've never heard of an Auction House that shut down your bank before, but there it is.

Not only do you have no idea if your Retainer has actually sold anything, you also don't know if it has been kicked from the ward due to a crash, a server shutdown, or some other reason.

Also, you're taxed at a higher rate for selling item in the wrong ward, but you only have 2 retainers with 10 slots each. Add to the fact that there's a retainer population limit in each ward and popular wards are always too full to add any more retainers. It's inevitable you're going to end up being taxed higher because you simply can't avoid it, and this is during a time when there's hardly anyone playing the game.

There are just so many problems with this system, that when it gets reviewed for a second time, the economy will be ridiculed in the press once more (they took over a year to fix the game, and this is all they could come up with? the inventors of the auction house?)

It looks bad. Real bad. This can't be the primary way to buy and sell in this game. Reviewers will hack the game to bits over something so convoluted, flawed and user-unfriendly as the Market Wards.

    This speaks the truth.
Especially when it comes to selling frankly I just give up the halfway there because the gil really is not worth all that hassle and that's why you can't find any of the common cheaper items in the wards like you could in an AH.

Also the reviews. You people are kidding yourself if you think the reviewers will let the AH issue just slide the second time around especially after over a year since they originally reviewed the game thinking that most of the major issues will be dealt with in the patches.

Also you are living in denial if you think the reviews won't affect YOU. Yes YOU MW white-knight that is content with the wards and for some reason are against development of this game up to MMO standards.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

I want to upgrade my gear. To do so I need a robe, a shield, a wand, some shoes, and a ring. All five different items are found in five different wards. So in order to complete what should be the simple action of searching for these items, and purchasing them from a menu (two simple steps), I have to:

    1. Search for one item
    2. Star the NPCs that are selling the item
    3. Remember the ward its in, and zone to it
    4. Find the npc I want out of a possible handful of npcs selling it
    5. Find the item from a list of other items at the price that I want
    6. Buy it
    7. Run to ward entrance and repeat four more times.

Five different zones, five npcs, all for a task that could be handled by one npc, and no zoning or npc hunting at all.

Sounds like a pretty flawed system to me.

The worst is when you want to purchase a HQ version of something that there is 30+ NQ versions of up for sale on the wards, then you seriously have to run through EVERY SINGLE WARD just to find out IF there is even an HQ for sale! Then if there are multiple HQs for sale you have to remember the prices of each, the names of the retainers and which ward they are in to have a shot at getting the HQ item with the best price! It can easily turn into a 30 minute ordeal FOR ONE ITEM!

I have 8 crafts at 50. All I did was watch T.V. and spam standard for easy mode synths. Enjoy leveling those crafts in 1.19 and beyond everyone!
