    I wonder if this is a mistake they could ever correct, though since I'd assume Scholar would be the one being made into a standalone since in the stat bonuses you'd give them mind it would need a full rework so it has a full compliment of abilities.

    If they did I also assume Arcanist / Summoner would receive tweaks to their abilities,like physick being moved over as an example. Though would this ultimately stop Summoner being a dps that can battle res.

    There's one side of me that hopes by the 4.0 expansion or more likely the 5.0 one that they rebuild the job system and phase out and remove the class system

    There's no denying how much of a hole SE have dug themselves with this.

    They tied weapons and classes together instead of tying skills and abilities to each class. And since 2 jobs branch off of Arcanist you have 2 jobs that share the skills of the base class. That's where they fucked up. Each class always had proficiency(what can be equipped) in types of armor and types of weapons in other FF games. Not to mention the way they handle stats is more simplistic to accommodate their simplistic design. An ugly mess IMO when most cases you focus on a single stat to do everything for you.

    If they want to do away with base classes and retain the armory system they will have to remove cross class skills and basically tack on skills to the job that give the same effects.

    Otherwise they will have to scratch the entire system they are using and come up with something else. And with the game this far in it's life they likely won't do that.

    But when you factor in that some of these "cross class" skills are mandatory for your job and they are already limited to begin with. Ask yourself. Are they really cross class skills? Because they are not.

    WoW has in a sense has done just that but their whole system is no where near as rigid as ARR's.

    And yeah it occurred to me afterwards as well that Scholar would need a whole new weapon as well for it to be standalone, or they could take the easy route and have two book weapon types. Arcanist/Summoner set as Grimoires and Scholar books being classed as Tomes.

    Best way for them to remove classes and stick to jobs is make their cross class skills into new job skills with the same effects.

    You'll want something like DRK/AST/MCH where all their skills are part of the Job and aren't reliant on base class.

    Once base classes are removed without a Job Crystal equipped you retain the Job/Class of Freelancer.

    But on the same token since the game began with these base classes into progression to jobs and locked everything down with the armory system I just don't think it's feasible without an overhaul to well everything.

    So really they are in a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation. If they change any framework I'm sure a lot of jobs will be affected. And that is if they do ultimately remove their cross class skills in exchange for job specific ones that do the same thing.

    True but I was just throwing the idea up in the air because the Blue Mage has such a diverse set of spells it can practically be anything, most people who know about the Blue Mage could see this but yeah you're right about everyone else wanting it. Dark Knights be screaming they wanna be a DPS class again.

    Certain hunt marks/bosses have Reflect, but I think it's going to stay as an enemy exclusive ability since either Reflect would make players invincible from magic or they'll just make most mobs and bosses ignore Reflect anyway via cheating or they'll make their magic into "abilities" instead so it isn't magic (use instead of casts)

    A badass, heavy sword that cuts like a butter knife. I imagine my feet armor would hit harder.

    Then again since you seem to be a Lalafell as a DRK you really will be carrying a butter knife.
