I've seen people saying the overall price will be increased in-game though..
I wonder what's their reasoning behind this, anyone who thinks this way can share their thoughts??![]()

It will, for a few reasons.Totally agree with you Jouten.
Lower Tier materia should become more and more inexpensive by time as there'll always be players ranking up,
turning them into materia.
But I have doubt if the pricing of a materia will actually be more expensive than the original gear.
It'll be greatly related to what exact bonus the materia is giving,
and could be tied to pricing accessories gear like rings as they both serve similar functions.
First, the seller has to pay the price in time to grind up the spiritbond. Time is money, so this will affect the price accordingly. Pretty straightforward so far.
Second, a particular piece of gear is not guaranteed to convert into a certain type of materia. If you have, say, five Raptorskin Harnesses, but only three of them convert into the most desired materia, those three materia will most likely have to cover up for the smaller price on the other two.
Third, even within the same tier of the same type of materia, the bonuses vary. This means that, taking our three materia from the last example, one of them may have the maximum bonus available, while another is low, and the last one somewhere in between. The price on the "best of the best" materia in this example would have to reflect the fact that only 20% of the gear converted (example numbers, of course) will actually produce that materia.
And, of course, I'm sure there are other factors I'm missing, but these are the three that come to mind.![]()
I imagine very few will use material other than what they can make themselves until the 25-30 level ranges, possibly, not even until 50. I remember in FFXI (which I am using as a proxy) some people wouldnt even equip gear until 30s. So I imagine few people will be shelling out gil/time to get +50 HP. Maybe if accuracy was a problem (like in FFXI) but its not. And, in fact, they increased accuracy with 1.19.
Viridiana is right.
Throw catalysts on top all this and finding the appropriate catalysts will make the materia game more... complicated. If say, everyone is trying to deck themselves out with Fire Resist materia to handle the Ifrit encounter and the catalyst only comes from the highest ranks of botany, there will be a demand for that catalyst across all those rank 50s adventurers. As such, that catalyst will go up in price, knowing people will pay it to make sure they're prepared for Ifrit.
And then, in general, I think initially, people will charge an arm and a leg for the newly crafted upper level items and resources. Those that want their items first either must be in sexy cahoots with the crafters in advance or be willing to shell out that money.
lost my train of thought, will come back I think...
Initially i do see every bit of materia going for high prices, as well as the catalysts (new & shiny tax). Though eventualy i don't see a lot of active trade in the lower tiers. It's going to be one hell of a volatile market early on.Viridiana is right.

So would the prices of gears be decreased?
I think it will, as they can be consumed rapidly and repeatedly for multiple purposes.
Even if the price is high at start, eventually it'll reach a point where buyers cannot afford paying so much repeatedly.
Then it falls to the problem of low-mid rank players asking a LS mate to craft those overpriced items for them.
Much like now, the player will have to either harvest their own raw materials or buy them from the market, in case the crafter cannot provide them.
DoLs' raw material prices and whether the crafters' storage material will end up emptied will be the major factor of the pricing then?
I'm no good at economy so I don't really have a clue now.
as for materia prices they will start out high until they lvl out. the prices will be determined by supply and demand, that is all.
