Too bad it did. Would have been cool to see some new system in place.

I did find this quote from last years thread funny though...

People already do this regardless of caps.... If it was just a dungeon drop system atleast it would promote doing dungeons and you could gear up more than one class at a time. Instead of just grinding one class to max for a month and a half or so and then start on another. That method makes me feel forced to play only one class, which to me, seems counter productive to SE's design of playing and changing jobs on the fly.

Further down in the thread someone suggested this:

Which would be a cool idea while still keeping lockouts and caps.

ya its getting for me as well. Luckly i'm lazy and decided to stop after my main healer job is done for my raid group. For hunts I never liked them group wise, fates I gave up on it for relic after I got my 1st wind item thingy after my 65 fates i think in my 1st zone.

beastmen, I didnt like the rewards so I didnt do them. Dungeons I only do it for tombs or lvling, or helping a friend. You'll never see me q for one otherwise. gold saucer stuff, I got my bunny ears and dont care for anything else since fenrir doesnt glow like in ff11 lol.

primals I dont care for. I'm only playing because I enjoy playing with my raid static, if it wasnt for them I prob would've left the game a long time ago. Sadly its a been there done that feel, before coming to ff14 I was already burned out from wow. This game seems to have somewhat of the same pattern.

I actually am a bit now. Did my weekly Void Ark and Alexander 5-8. Now it's juist saving up lores for some more pieces and then try A5S. Leveling an alt is a bit annoying without MSQ as ive never played a game where you didnt have some sort of story on all new characters (now that i got all jobs on 1 char)

FFXI as it is now is a very, very different game from FFXI a decade ago.

I originally played from 2004 to 2009, then picked it up again around this time last year, starting from scratch. Reaching level 75 the first time around took me about a year and a half. This time it took me less than a week.

Obviously that's not a completely reasonable direct comparison. I had five years of knowledge and experience going into it this time around, compared to being a blank slate the first time, but even so. The game is infinitely more player friendly now, both in general and especially for new players.

I'd be wary of making generalizations about former FFXI players based on the new player experience that currently exists.

There are many excellent aspects of FFXI, and a lot of things that I'd be thrilled to see SE adapt for FFXIV. But I also experienced first-hand a lot of things that were extremely frustrating or poorly thought out during my time playing and those do get glossed over quite a lot when FFXI is discussed. The rose-tinted glasses comments are at least partially accurate.

I am currently on a well needed break from the weekly grind and FFXIV's lack of content. I love the game to bits and it makes me so sad they opt for boring and repeatative content over and over again....

Well, we ARE getting Nyzul+Salvage combined come next patch

I was sick of farming tomes around the second week this trend started. They NEED to come up with some drastic changes with the next expansion, you can only drag this kind of system for so long before your playerbase decides it's not worth it anymore.

I understand the need to cater to a larger audience, but there needs to be something new more often. The core gameplay needs changes, and instead they keep on investing time in secondary stuff that are pretty much dead the week after their release.

Less fluff content, more new actual MMO stuff and ideas like battle content, interesting lore questlines, stuff that we can upgrade at OUR OWN pace, less time and farming restrictions.
I don't care if Cloud Sefirrot got his Sword of Uber a month before me, kudos to him.

Restrictions need to GO AWAY. NOW. At least I can decide when I get bored instead of a slow and agonizing descent into boredom.

After about 2 years of constantly grinding tomes for better gear, it gets pretty boring. I wish, there could be a better option or alternative way to get them. At the moment I m just doing my daily duty roulette and hope to reach my cap within 4 days or so. But its not fun to run through the same dungeons all over again, because expert roulette only have 2 dungeons.

Red scripts for example are some kind of tomes for crafter. But I can reach my weekly cap easily within a hour. Gathering red scripts takes a bit longer, but not as long as for tomes.

    What about this:
-> Some kind of hunting log, where you have to kill 5 different enemies with a certain class/job. Each class gives you a total of 50 tomes per week.
-> Add tomes to challenge log for level 60 classes instead of routine
-> Add tomes to retainer ventures xD
-> Put all 60 dungeons together and remove expert duty

I stopped capping my lore a few weeks back too after i kinda got out of raiding.
What's the point anyway? There's nothing i can't do with my current gear anyway, could even do A8S.
If i quit now and came back in 2 years, considering they don't change stuff, I'd pick up Crafted gear and i'd be ready to go.
If i neglect capping for 2 patches, it's not gonna matter.
The gear you get has so little value, it's basically meaningless.

I do love FF, and i played FFXI for many many years, also played FFXIV since 1.0 alpha even.
And i agree, it's true what people are saying imo.
FFXIV gives me no sense of adventure whatsoever.
In FFXI you would have to communicate and work with people, it was a real journey.
Even just leveling up you had to send people a /tell to ask them if they wanted to join you.
That alone is more communication that i find in most DF, and i don't even have to go anywhere, i do it out of my house or the city, w/e.

FFXI content also wasn't so limiting, you could include pretty much your whole LS in it, noone was excluded.
Even if the alliance was full and you were an extra, you could heal from outside, you could be rotated into the party.
People made these strategies, rotating bards, that really almost felt like warfare plans, it was amazing.
You'd have a party dedicated to tanking the boss, and then a Melee Party and a Caster Party.

Of course lots of it was a struggle, but that struggle was kind of fun, and the rewards felt like real achievements.

In FFXIV the 24man content is really sad, and raiding is kept to a secluded 8man team.
Of course there are exceptions, but that is the general rule, and it's sad imo.

Oh, also. Recently i found there to be a lot of people saying this game is dying, people are leaving etc.
And i kinda started feeling the same.
FFXIV did good, they turned it around from 1.0 to 2.0 and it was popular, with 3.0 it felt like a lot of people were interested to check it out.
I wish Square Enix decided to use this chance and invest more into FFXIV Development to keep those people, it feels like FFXIV is living on scraps of an already tight budget.
