If they raise prices like I expect, then now is the time I have to buy that large... else I won't get one ever.

My initial reaction is that a price reduction is coming, not an increase. Hope I'm right.
Maybe it's an adjustment to rebalance the ridiculous situation where some servers considered "legacy" have much higher housing prices but a weaker economy than predicted.
Hopefully they'll look at all servers & adjust where necessary. What was the economic situation at ARR launch is certainly not the same situation now for many servers.
I'm hoping this, also. At this point, so many years after the game's release, whether the players played the first version of the game shouldn't even have much of an impact anymore, anyway. It'd be about time for them to make it more uniform.
If they raise the prices to ridiculous amounts to keep resellers from buying them all up, though, they'll lose quite a chunk of respect for me, considering they'd be making it equally harder for those who just want their own house to actually get it.
We'll see.
"I'm OK. This rock broke my fall."
It won't really be harder cause lot of people already buy houses for a inflated price just look on reddit there a whole section dedicated to it. Say medium on balmung person pretty much selling their rights to give up the house for 50 million gil and then have to buy the actual plot for 37 million which is 87 million so what would be the difference between buying from a person that just flipping the plot cause of a badly done system or buying directly from the system for 80-90 million?I'm hoping this, also. Wow, I guess I never considered prices going up.... I've been saving up for a medium house to share with my fiancé, nieces and nephew for a couple months now and only at 10 million (I live on a "rich" world good population, meaning I need about 20 mil to grab one when it becomes available as they sometimes do). I would be super disappointed if the prices went up and all the housing got gobbled up by resellers. I bought the game for my family for Christmas so I can spend time with them (they live across the country after I moved away for my job). This is the one thing I've been driving for, to put it further out of reach would be a tough blow for me to deal with. I mean, I'm already paying for all of their accounts, give me a break.
*puts optimistic hat back on*
Let's be honest. The housing prices need an increase.
The economy needs more gil sinks desperately. It's so stupid easy to make gil in this game and since a lot of people don't even need to pay for repairs... the only way gil is really sunk on a regular basis is through teleports ( which shouldn't really increase in price, it's torture enough for brand new players lol )
Also with what other people in this thread have mentioned... a price increase won't stop the housing mafia from buying everything up but it will put a roadblock in their way making it easier for the every other man to save up their gil and get their hot little hands on a house.
I remember when my first FC bought their house almost 2 years ago on Gilgamesh the plots were open for months after they doubled the wards. That was because money was harder to come by. Now that you're rolling in gil by the time you get 60 anyone should EASILY be able to save or already have the 5mil for a small.
I have a personal feeling the prices will not increase very much or way too much. Let's see what happens lol
That's kind of how economies work, even virtual ones. So it does not surprise me if they raise the prices. The problem with housing was never the prices to be honest within the grand scheme of things. Everyone can save up for one even if do so at different speeds. The main problem is and always was the shortage of plots, even after 3.3 it will remain a huge problem in general. House prices might put some people off but everyone is capable of making gil and saving up for it.
I care less about a potential rising of house prices than the fact there is so few plots overall, making gil is not limited outside of time and effort willing to put in despite the fact people who already own a house get a huge advantage in that regard, plots are however finite and very limited so no matter how much gil people have they probably won't get one. It is made worse by the introduction of airship ventures and gardens which create a vast amount of additional wealth for the limited amount of house owners (the gap between the rich and the poor increasing), even worse when take into account many people own multiple houses...but in terms of priorities though, plot availability is the biggest issue and wouldn't matter if house cost 1 gil or 1 billion gil if there is not enough plots to go around.

It's very unlikely that prices would go down.
Players are complaining about not being able to buy houses because there is a lack of plots.
Square said they can't add too many plots because of limited server resources.
Some people are buying plots to resell them on their own account or even multiple plots on alts.
They will add a few plots to address a bit housing situation
They will add a flat system in Ishgard to address a bit more housing situation (512 flats per building), most certainly in instantiated zone to avoid resource sink like housing is.
Given all this data, one can only assume that real houses prices will rise A LOT and flats will be affordable.
I wish they'd disallow personal housing except in (big house-like but instantiated) flats, so that the housing wards are full of active FC members ^^
What you all are saying makes sense. Damn, I wish I was saving harder earlier! I need to get this done and hope something becomes available! It's very unlikely that prices would go down.
