I'm legitimately very curious about the pro-annoyance crowd. If the tables were turned, and the game was not designed to let you spam abilities/spells in cities, would you be complaining about the inability to annoy people in them? What would the argument there be? Generally, the defense here supporting it, would work in the opposite situation that's why... but I'm not seeing much of a logical one on that besides something akin to "we can do it, so don't change it".

Side note: I don't mind one way or another on the sides here, since I use the filters. Whatever d-bags I wish suffered daily psychotic annoyance upon IRL that I see in the towns are going to be the same ones I see elsewhere, so whatever lol.

Because it's extremely unnecessary to add in some more code to prevent people from using spells and abilities in specific areas when the option to turn them off yourself already exists. Any programmer would know that when you add or change something in the code, you more than likely broke a dozen other things, and there is absolutely no need to do that.

If it wasn't for being able to spam spells in towns, I'd never have learned how to Unleash or Salted Earth properly.

Yeah, but that's not what I was asking. Your argument there is sound, but it really doesn't seem to be the case for an overwhelming number of people on this thread lol.

You can turn off sound effects for other players. I did this and never looked back since there's never a time I need to hear an audio cue from someone else's abilities. Now people can have an army of magitek spamming their cannons for all I care and I can sit in peaceful quiet serenity and go about my day.

That's because your proposed question is a bunch of false equivalency BS. You're asking a hypothetical for the sake of a hypothetical. Most of us who are saying it's not a big deal (or really, a deal at all) are of the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mindset. That goes both ways.

Also, as a general rule, players of games such as this one tend towards freedom of action, rather than restriction. Hence, adding more restrictions = bad, especially if there's ways to deal with it in-game that don't force a host of potentially negative changes to the internal code of the game. There are already legitimate in-game means of dealing with any annoyance caused by using skills in towns, up to and including reporting the offender if need be. Coming to the forums to complain about something that can be dealt with, in-game, with readily accessible tools just smacks of entitlement. The game should not, and will not, be molded around special snowflakes who refuse to use the (completely effective) options they already have.

Well would you look at that. A far greater explanation of your stance. Looks like my question did a lot more than you think. You managed to provide a far greater and civil answer than your previous. One that excels at providing more insight on the heart of defensive matter. A bit snarky still, but better than (again) the previous.

Alternatively, instead of adding in lines of code that, in all likelihood, will introduce some ridiculous bug, you could....

Take the aforementioned advice and turn off spell effects.

Turn off your sound, in game or otherwise.

Move, either to a new town or new location in town.

    Learn to consciously ignore it.

Swap to a job will a skill like that and join in the fun.

...no, wait, never mind. Those are all stupid. Much better to ignore reasonable solutions and force the game to change in order to suit a vocal few.
    Interesting, ain't it?
