I think they are fantastic looking.. but I would have held off until lvl 70 or higher for stuff that looks this powerful.

It sets the bar too high for later stuff.

Once again, almost all FFs had a realistic aspect to it in some way, some more subtle than others. Oversized weapons and armor generally look tacky, this is why generic MMOs are such an eyesore to look at, these weapons are a bit bulky but nowhere as ridiclous as some MMOs yet. Did you forget about the game you're playing? The Armor is done realistically even in composition, therefore the whole "THIS IS A FANTASY GAME" argument is moot.

See? Realism isn't such a bad thing in a game, Even the Lord of the Rings were done with a touch a realism.

So glowing swords are ok, and big swords are ok. Just not big glowing swords?

And if you're referring to LotRO, it not faring much better than XIV did at release.

I reiterate: Ifrit is in XIV, therefore weapons fashioned from his horns as a reward for defeating him fit in the themes of XIV.

XI's designs were mind-numbingly boring. XI's Ifrit's Blade looked exactly like the low rank Sapara I could have purchased for a few hundred Gil in town.

It's nice to see them take artistic liberty in a case like this.

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
    (Marvelous economics IQ test!)

    If you reference XI:

They stated specifically they weren't able to do what they wanted with certain blades due to being limited by the PS2. This is why the aura weapons in XI is very, very subtle however they said they wanted to add a flame to weapons like Ifrit's Blade and Flame Sword for example and a spark to Spark Bilbo.

Also no, I was refering to the series Lord of the Rings. The big difference between XIV and XI, is XIV isn't hindered by an 11 year old machine, they could only do so much with XI's designs, especially very early on a console MMO.

I like to have visual-specialized weapons from a legend monster rather than some general nice looking ones. What even better is, it's easy to see that these weapons are from Ifrit because the signatures of glowing red horns. (Now I wonder what's the signature of Titan...)

If SE can make such visual-specialized weapons, then SE is surely capable to make good looking ones in the future without problems. Ifrit loot is not the only and final weapon-set we will have in FFXIV, so don't be panic!

It will be even more exciting if Ifrit loot could have a visual-specialized armor-set as well! (This link pic is Rathalos blademaster armor in Monster Hunter.)
