This is a funny story, I was levelling my alt the other day, did Copperbell Mines as I'd just unlocked it. Now I hear as a joke very often that on SCH you can just follow the tank and go AFK, but this was the first time I've ever seen anyone actually do that.

Naturally we were all very confused at first by this scholar's weird behaviour until I realised what they were doing, after calling them out and putting up a votekick, they got stuck in a corner for a moment and then briefly started pretending to play, throwing random physicks when the tank was full life. He got kicked and I had a laugh with some FC friends about it, then we happened to have Selli join in progress and had a lovely run ^_^

Very new to game. Did OK on all dungeons until Qarn. Was just at or right over min level. Total disaster. I didn't realize there would be "doom" on 1st boss, got nuked. Someone said to watch for doom, but based on other game experience didn't realize it would show quietly as a debuff. Nuked. Told to go to glow stand. Saw some column of light and based on another game went to it not the square. Nuked. Tried to rez a player not realizing in this game entering the area at all would pull boss. Dead. Was told about square. Yay. Got to square. Lived. Got to square again. Lived. Finally, the embarrassment would be over. But two seconds after we all ran to that last square, I alone was nuked once more somehow. Got kicked at that point, didn't blame the others one bit. As frustrated as they may have been, I am certain I felt worse. Never had such a disaster ever in any game/dungeon. So, thus ends my first FFXIV duty finder tale, one of extra mortifying shame.

After 30-45 minutes of not getting past the first boss, we finally had to say that it wasn't possible with the party composition we had -- I think this was before vote kick; it was way early in the history of ARR, at least -- so we voted to abandon the duty. Tried it again a few months later (didn't have that much time to play back then, so hadn't gotten that much further in the game), with friends, and was astonished over how easy it all seemed to be. In comparison to that first run, I mean.

My warrior friend unlocked Ultima HM and wanted to kill it, I was like "oops, you don't remember anything of this fight" but joined him on BLM, and a scholar friend was with us too. So we sign in, get paired with a sprout paladin, a lv60 WHM and three sprout DPS (two bards and another BLM). Paladin says "voke at 4" (or was it 3? Don't remember anymore) and pulls immediately after - so they seem to be an alt. Warrior friend is confused because he doesn't know what paladin meant, at the same time scholar friend and I think "oh fuck" because I told warrior friend that he will need Provoke someday, but he is yet to level his gladiator to 22, and I tell the party this. So, warrior friend can't voke, paladin dies, warrior friend picks up Ultima, paladin and WHM insult warrior friend for not voking with the most, uhm, colourful words I've ever heard. Then we wipe at about 20% because of these spheres which, I think, we have to prevent from colliding.

After the wipe I explain warrior friend what paladin meant by "voke at 4(3?)" while paladin and WHM are still flaming before paladin pulls again. They say "every tank learns this shit" and instead of dpsing I calmly explain that only gladiator at level 22 learns Provoke and that no other tank class learns a similar ability. Paladin dies again, warrior friend picks Ultima up again, paladin and WHM flame again, we wipe at 20% again.

As paladin and WHM don't stop flaming, I say "guess I'm gonna take some time writing reports after this duty", and see - silence. Neither said a single word after this. For the third try, warrior friend pulls, but paladin immediately vokes Ultima away from him. Instead of just letting warrior friend MT until Provoke is actually needed. Again we wipe at 20%, nobody but me does this spheres thing.

I explain the spheres (or better, I explain what I think we have to do with them). Fourth try. Warrior friend pulls, paladin immediately vokes, I take aggro because of the lack of Quelling as it's still on CD from the third try, I die, I get raised, wipe at 20%. The same happens a fifth time too. I tell warrior friend not to pull a sixth time and start vote abandon. I've never seen this go through so fast.

It was kinda stupid of us to blindly run into such a difficult fight, especially with a tank who lacks Provoke. But at least this wasn't what wiped us - still, we need to powerlevel his gladiator before we try again xD

Did Sunken temple of Qarn on my MCH yesterday

We wipe first time at doom boss because the healer was new and didn't know the fight.

We explain the fight for the healer but the Tank and other DPS die to doom the next 3 times and we wipe.

5th time both Tank and DPS last until boss is almost dead but healer decides to hard cast raise on tank rather then keep me alive and we wipe again.

Next 2 times all 3 die to doom and I quit dungeon as they refuse to vote abandon.

While it would probably have been good to tell said Warrior friend somewhere along the line (i.e. before he got to 50) that he ought to get Gladiator to 22 for Provoke, because it's a skill that's used a lot once you get to 8-man duties, the attitude of that other tank... Wow.
If I ended up in one of those "early" 50 duties with another tank who didn't have Provoke... I'd say something to the point of, "ok, we'll solve this somehow," and then probably suggest the other tank pull so I could provoke at the right time and at least get through one of the cycles. If nothing else, those new to the fight would get some practice on a longer section of it.

Hehe, well, I feel bad as a healer in any game when we wipe or someone dies, even if it's because the tank or dps messes up really bad. So having it be my fault was sour. But the more I've looked up Qarn, the more it seems like a welcome mat for new players with a landmine underneath Will study the guides, get better at the game, and try again one day!

Well had a crazy strange Void Ark run on the weekend. I finally got two of my friends and FC mates to give it a try. I decided that I wanted a change and ran as a DRG instead of my normal AST. They went in as MCH and PLD.
First the good, it seems our DPS was nice and high as any time our Alliance had something to kill on our own it went down in a hurry. My friend is a little under i200 as a PLD and doing ok holding hate with all the DMG going out.
Now the bad, it seems our two healers, a WHM and a SCH were either trolling or just not wanting to heal. My friend kept dying even using all his cooldowns and self heals and avoiding the damage that was avoidable. After the second death I started to pay attention to the healers to see what they were doing. The SCH was throwing out their DPS dots and spells and did not shift to heal at all or only for a very small window to rez. The WHM was casting Medica 2 about once every minute and nothing else... I mean nothing. I was using bloodbath and second wind and all my defensive cooldowns to mitigate what I could of the damage coming my way too.

There was no conversation between the two healers during the raid that I could see so maybe the SCH just assumed the WHM would do the healing as you can solo heal it all easily. And the WHM was only along for the loot I guess.

Anywho we finished VA and I apologized to my friends for not running a healer for them. And no we did not try to talk to either healer once we noticed as it was obvious that they were either trolling or looking to be carried and the there was no time to initiate a kick as the raid was going by so fast and the loot was not being rolled on in time before the next fight. (probably so they could not be kicked.) Faster to just grind through it.

    Yay for DF shenanigans. ^_^

On another note I wish they would not let you roll on the card if you already have it. I forgot I had gotten it a long time ago and rolled for it this run. Got a 98 and poof the card is mine. Then I noticed I already had it. I felt bad for the others who could have used it. The only consolation was that the two not-healers didn't get it.

It was brought up not too long ago in this topic but I have to bring it up again: why do tanks try to do large pulls in lower level dungeons? I've been leveling a new character on a different server, a scholar. Due to the lack of resources my gear isn't exactly stellar, but good enough for the dungeon in my level range... except of course when the tank decides to pull two groups at a time, with no caster in the party. In the stone vigil I ran just now, the tank would have died if it weren't for a timely holmgang, as they'd pulled two groups of mobs and two nearby roaming aevis. Our dps were a mnk and a drg, so not much in the way of aoe-- in a lot of pulls I had to heal the tank flat out to keep them up so I couldn't stance dance. Despite the struggle in keeping them alive and the time it took for each pull to die, they still kept going.

    Why. Why? Why?

I'm feeling all sorts of irritated because I busted my ass off to ensure nobody died, and still walked out of there with no comms. No loot either, so now I'm afraid to go back in there.
