Never really got into MMO's and this one only piqued my interest because my friends on steam were playing it and I've always been a huge fan of the Final Fantasy series.
I do regret missing out on XI at the time, always wanted to play Final Fantasy online, I was little, parents couldn't pay for a sub fee so I had to settle with playing Final Fantasy X, didn't play XI til 2014 and a lot more this year. Ended up really loving XIV and I loved the fanservice and nostalgic throwbacks just like how IX did which is one of the reasons I don't get why people can play this as their first FF cause they're not gonna appreciate the series history, but I digress

Can't say I have the same love for XIV now as I did back then but it got me interested in trying other games in the MMO genre.

I was able to party up with my roommate and clear areas together. I know they limit how much you can sell on the MP and how many dungeons you can run a day (i havent reached the first dungeon yet), but what other player interactions are they inhibiting?

The ability to trade with other players is restricted to VIP players only along with certain emotes being VIP player only.

I think they also restrict players from customizing their characters appearance as well to only VIP.

Surprisingly enough, final fantasy did. Not this one but earlier before MMOs ones existed.

I used to play them as a child, and got out of gaming for awhile. FPS, actually BF2 got me back into gaming, aside from a runescape jaunt. But I always thought "Final Fantasy is great, wouldn't it be great to play with lots of other people."

Got sick of FPS eventually, and hopped into DCUO for awhile, great concept for a game, just greedy and incompetent devs. So when I had 6+ months off of work for some shoulder surgery, I jumped ship to FFXIV.

Here's an alphabetical list of MMOs I played:

    - DC Universe Online
    - Final Fantasy XI
    - Final Fantasy XIV
    - Neverwinter
    - Onigiri
    - The Elder Scrolls Online

    May 2005:
My first MMO was Final Fantasy XI back in 2005 when I used to own a laptop. I had set it up, but didn't play until two days later when I went on vacation from work. I started as WHM and got to Lv10 in a few hours. I was then greeted to party invites (although I originally had to ask for help on how to accept them). I joined that group and we were leveling non-stop up until we had to travel to new zones and do Level Cap quests. Needless to say, when we were done, I was Lv56 after three days of us leveling. Only one person was replaced. It was then that I believed all online games, notably MMOs, had this kind of community.

    Feb 2007:
I got FFXI on my PS2.

    Feb 2008:
I then got FFXI on Xbox 360.

    Feb 2011:
Began DC Universe on PS3, . I couldn't get into it at first, but bounced between DC and FFXI.

    2013 (not sure the month):
When I joined the FFXIV beta in 2013, I then bounced all three games, with FFXIV's first payment being in October or November (can't remember), paying the subs and all.

    Nov 2014:
My PS2 and HDD was badly damaged and FFXI isn't compatible with the Slim PS2. My Xbox 360 caught the RRoD and I didn't want to replace it at the time since I was heavily playing on the PS3. I had access to FFXI on PS3 via a backwards compatible PS3. I had established a name for myself within DC Universe for being a good solo healer that I ended up focusing on both DC Universe and FFXIV. I never resubbed to FFXI since I had found FFXIV to be more pleasing, so FFXI ended for me since I didn't pay my sub for Decemeber.

    Feb 2014:
I bought a PS4 a week or so before FFXIV beta released there. My daughter wanted my PS3, so I gave it to her. This was when I had my break away from FFXIV for a bit while focusing on DC Universe. FFXIV released in whatever month, and I was again subbing to both DC and FFXIV, but giving very little attention to DC.

    June 2015:
I preordered Elder Scrolls Online digitally, and only played it for an hour. During this time, I felt FFXIV was THE game for me, causing me to not pay my DC Universe sub since July. It's a F2P game, so I felt like I would always have access to it during FFXIV's downtime for maintenance.

    Feb 2016:
I paid the sub to DC again when I felt like my morale for FFXIV was getting low. I wasn't raiding, I had no stable group of people to run content with, I found myself spamming dungeons, found myself constantly joining learning parties even though I'd have content on farm with all weapons obtained. DC was refreshing, as my League welcomed me as if I was never gone. Since I get home from work late nights on four days out the week, my server on FFXIV is dead. I'd end up doing my dailies and Beast Tribes then logging into DC to conclude my night. During this mix, if both FFXIV and DC are down, I mingle with Elder Scrolls (since Elder Scroll's release in 2015, I'm only a Lv8 character).

I do not know exactly when I started Neverwinter and Onigiri, because those were when I had an Xbox One. Onigiri is on PS4, but I was a Lv43 on the Xbox One version and did not want to start over. It was my experiences in FFXI that brought me into the MMORPG world, and those games are usually my go-to games. I prefer co-op play, and I get that 98% of the time in an MMO. I'm not a competitive gamer anymore, so I don't do the PVP until people ask me to boost to Tomes, and I don't get into the Call of Duties anymore (my last Call of Duty was Ghosts).

Even now, while FFXIV is my main game, there are still moments where I'm like only find entertainment when I'm on tank for the faster queues. I like the role, but I only chose tank because my NIN (main job) would take too long to get into DF, which cause me to just say screw it and log off.

Asheron's Call back in 1999. Being dropped in the middle of a world and not being provided with any instructions was awesome. No quest logs or markers telling you where to go. Pick a direction, start exploring and figure things out

    EQOA, my first MMO.

Got me hooked with the large map, random quests from talking to random NPC's, online buddies, epic glowing weapons where getting them required teamwork, exploration, and a guild, raids that required a guild or an alliance of guilds and thoughtful equipment stats, I mean honestly, if your going to fight an ice dragon...gear that resists ice damage actually meant something...

This new age of MMO is cool, and since I'm older, have a family and a job, this casual approach is helpful but I will, on occasion, find myself in an old gamer mood grinding the day away hours upon hours of relentless xp'ing. Which again isn't bad here, but in EQOA, an 8 hour grind meant like 10% or 20% EXP for that level...

A friend of mine had played AC for years. The only reason she quick (and started playing WoW) was because she could no longer log back onto the game. She helped me make a character on the game, all I remember is that it was a UA named after one of my White Wolf characters.

The original Neverwinter Nights on AoL. Then, MUDs/MUSHs and a text-based game called Earth 2025 after a real internet was established. Thne, PSO, iRO, FFXI, WoW, Guild Wars 2, FFXIV 1.0, FFXIV 2.0, and PSO2.

I enjoy the anonymity of being online. Because no one can see my face, they can get to know me for me; for better or worse.
