    Time Travel and you

I couldn't find a previous topic on this, but I've noticed a lot of other players talking about 1.0 and those days when Coerthas didn't look like a wasteland.

What do you think the chances are the S-E team will create some 1.21 Gigawatt Magitek machines and we find ourselves going back to the past for some such or another?

Could be a journey in the mind sort of thing through echo. Otherwise time traveling as a plot point can get incredibly convoluted and tricky to work with.

I hope not, time travel just makes things ... complicated. Although can and do have the ability to see into the past of others.

I think in 1.0 it was more evident that we can "play" a more active role in a person's flashback, but nothing could be done to change the past, I think. So something like that could be fine.

I'd say that any "time travel" would be through just experiencing the past through the echo in a playable fashion, and not likely to see any magitek or machine based stuff...

But I'm not sure I can say that we wouldn't anymore, since apparently the Alexander story has dealings with time manipulation (though I'm not particularly familiar with it yet, so it might be magic based time shenanigans instead of machine craziness going on).

Well, it was introduced right at the end of the Midas storyline, so we'll probably get more information in 3.4. For now, it seems only localized to within Alexander, not outside of him, and its not really going anywhere just yet (they just got the last Codex piece and are starting their evil plan right now)

I won't be surprised if we end up getting suck into a portal of the past. Something will blow up (caused by us) and then past/future things.

Still horribly upset they destroyed one of the most beautiful zones in v1 to make a generic snow zone.

For those who don't know what it looked like.

The thing is though, if time travel was hypothetically added in a future expansion where the player physically travels into the pre-Calamity past, it will not be the 1.0 zones the player travels to, but a 'past' version of the ARR zones - how many players realize that most of the ARR zones actually retcon 1.0's maps? For instance, Gridania and the Black Shroud are an example of this, certain landmarks and sections of the map have been completely changed to locate these features in totally different places to where they were in 1.0, without any real explanation as to why (i.e., the CNJ's Guild was actually in the far north-west corner of Gridania instead it's now located where the aetheryte plaza in 1.0 was, Lifemend Stump is now on the completely opposite side of Gridania to where it was in 1.0, the now partially buried Gelmorran Ruins were located in the far northern most point of the North Shroud, now they're close to Fallgourd Float (which was not a village in 1.0 but just an 'aetherial gate') even that abandoned airship dock in the South Shroud, was actually in the North Shroud in 1.0. You see my point? Even Coerthas might not escape this - "don't you know? It has always snowed in Coerthas."

At the very least these changes would be reflected in the maps in any potential time-travel excursion in a future expansion, thus invalidating the main reason players seem to have to want to go to the pre-Calamity Eorzea in the first place (to relive the 1.0 areas). It's time to face reality, 1.0 is gone and is never coming back.

Personally, I just think SE are going to stick to the Echo to show the past in the game, as a Wings of the Goddess-style expansion featuring actual time-travel would not really work here I'm afraid.

I was actually under the impression that the shift of the land during and immediately following the Calamity extended to more than just significant weather changes - namely that the incredible amounts of aether in play and, to some degree, the actions of Louisoix as the primal Phoenix led to the land being both healed (though not entirely, obviously) and changed in unexpected ways. Like parts of the Shroud or Gridania were restored but essentially misplaced as part of the process.

It would be incredibly sweet if they did just throw us back to pre-calamity days. Oh to walk through those zones again with the graphics of today would make my nostalgias tingle so hard.

The only issue would be finding out how to create the zones since they were so immense before, but then again the could technically do it since some areas had bottle necks, like traveling from central to any other part of coerthas, mor dhona and thanalan had narrow passages they could easily make zone gates. The only problem I think they would have doing so it the maze that was the shroud. All it was were tunnels basically and it took ages to traverse compared to other zones which would make some players extremely upset and likely loud about it. But it would still be oh so wonderful
