Much in the same way that we can fly but don't fight in mid air, we could have swimming while only fighting on the bottom of the water. I would be happy just being able to paddle around in Costa Del Sol though, seems such a shame not to be able to enjoy that lovely water.

Swimming would be nice, despite the bad memories of Vasjh'ir in WoW as melee, though I didn't much like it either as ranged (yay herb farming). If underwater combat were as smooth as it was in GW2 though, I could get behind that.

Then again, what's an underwater level or zone if it isn't frustrating in some form? :P

Having more options is always cool, but I think swimming should be optional.

I mean, you can implement it and stuff, but just make it for optional quests, exploring and stuff.
I wouldn't like to raid underwater swimming. In WoW it sucked and I always tried to avoid these zones.

It's ok if they put it so we can swim on the beach, rivers, lakes etc... but IMO it would kill immersion (jokes aside) if they implement it for raids and underwater fights.

I'd love to be able to swim, even if it's only for the sole reason of wanting to dive into the sea at the costa del sol beach (damn you invisible wall for not allowing me to!)

In my opinion a retroactive update could work, it would just REQUIRE work on their part..

Flying is simple enough, they just need to patch up the out-of-bounds areas and put a back to some things on the edge that im assuming are completely flat/textureless. And they could actually get away with the aether currents too. Their entire reason for aether currents in heavensward was so people would first explore the land on foot.. Because they didnt want their work to go to waste. Solution to this, is to leave flying as an unlock in the heavensward area as it is. By that time we will have already explored everything in realm reborn on foot. They could even get away with a lack of aether currents lore-wise by saying that the realm reborn areas are much more abundant in aether, so you dont need to attune to currents.

As for the swimming it would be a little tricker to implement, but it would COMPLETELY break immersion if we could swim in new areas, but we find a river in a realm reborn area, and suddenly our characters forget how to swim >.> They would have to explain that like they did the aether currents, but i doubt they could make it make sense..

I only say I want swimming because to me that would also be an indication of Blitzball being added like they mentioned at one point. Also swimming combat I can't see it being to bad unless its treated like flying and for some lore reason we have to stand on the actual ground to fight thus removing any real difference.

Haha! I don't mean like about Vasjh'ir. I mean only for "normal" like we can little swim in deep.

Yeah, But FFXIV's old world (1-50lvl) still not flying. It's why I wanted run over water.

There are a lot of texture-less things. Though i am no programmer, just a humble network admin that hates programming in all areas, i would think this would not be a small undertaking. Pretty much if the world boundry or your line of sight makes it impossible to see behind something, it most likely will not have a texture. As far as the boundaries near costa and such like beach areas, those could be moved back a medium amount to allow swimming and the textures would be fine. They don't start the textureless areas until well past the boundaries. Even those ships well out at sea in costa are fully textured.

Going forward if I was part of the development team, i would say all areas should be fully able to be traversed and implement something like fatigue. That way you can explorer every nook and cranny to your hearts content (i love exploring edges of maps) and not feel bound by those solid areas on the maps.

I'd like swimming. I really like it in GW2. I don't expect new abilities (at least not many), but it would be a nice change of pace and would (hopefully) lead to a new way of designing dungeons.
