I wonder why they chose to up the damage of PLD when DRK is still so inferior to WAR. Now DRK is the worst tank, since the one thing they could bring was damage so at least they could be #2.

Was DRK in WF for A5S, A6S, and A8S? Yes.

DRK worst tank? In terms of DPS, PLD still sucks (figuratively speaking) vs other tanks. In return you get nice defensive CDs that can cheese mechanics (HG on Swindler + LB2 caster, HG on A7S Uplander Doom, Divine Veil on A8S if you run with a Monk). Already proven that DPS is not an issue in this current patch, meaning that PLD gets more spotlights VS DRK. That is simply because of the better utility overall to survive, NOT because of DPS.

In return you get nice defensive CDs that can cheese mechanics (HG on Swindler + LB2 caster, HG on A7S Uplander Doom, Divine Veil on A8S if you run with a Monk). Already proven that DPS is not an issue in this current patch, meaning that PLD gets more spotlights VS DRK. That is simply because of the better utility overall to survive, NOT because of DPS.

Don't forget that you can use Cover to take the damage and debuff stacks off of the other tank if you're playing offtank in A7

With the high magic damage in AM4 (and probably S - haven't gotten there yet though), I wouldn't be surprised if DRK is still top pick for MT there.

Honestly though, PLD got the buff because we needed it. WAR-DRK was the preferred comp in AG1-4, and it was largely due to (1) how much magic damage there was, (2) the fact that PLD and DRK are roughly equal in terms of general mitigation, and (3) DRK has the highest MT DPS (while PLD was the lowest by a very wide margin - it's narrower now, but still there). PLD did bring some raid utility in their toolkit, but as outgoing damage was low (and because of how hard it was to use), it couldn't account for their lack of DPS. Now that outgoing damage is higher? Now that there's generally more physical damage than magic? Now that PLD can compete with other jobs' DPS? Having a PLD can really help.

I pull 850-900 dps on Hummelfaust in Shield Oath. I dont know what DRK pulls currently but it feels like PLD did get a buff.

Honestly, probably either. When played well, they both have roughly equal mitigation capacity.
