I would also suggest to hold off and go to PS4 if you want to play on console.
Load times are rather slow on PS3 (dungeons, Idylshire, etc..) and support will be dropped in the future
Honestly night and day difference between PS4 over PS3

If you do go with a PS3 version, and your PS3 doesn't already have a solid state drive, I'd highly suggest getting one. On a plain non-upgraded PS3, load times can be bad. A solid state drive takes care of most of that. (PS3 with SSD has similar load times to PS4 without it.)
Even with a SSD though, really crowded areas can have issues with the PS3 not displaying all targets. (SE made some changes a while back to help ensure the most important targets have rendering priority. I'm assuming that took care of most of the problems this caused, but haven't seen for myself, as I've been playing on PS4 since then.)
Nope i play on PS4, switched over as soon as it came out but was on PS3 for a while. I would not even spend on ssd tbh if had a PS3, would just try to save up for a PS4If you do go with a PS3 version, and your PS3 doesn't already have a solid state drive, I'd highly suggest getting one. I had also played the PS4 Beta when it was out for FFXIV and was like damn, cannot wait for it to be out on PS4![]()
Anybody that would put a SSD in a ps3 at this point is out of their mind. If your PC is a dinosaur, the ps3 is only a bit younger dinosaur lol. Save for a ps4 or save for some pc upgrades, you'll be happier with the result.
That being said, yes you need to purchase separate copies of ARR and HW for ps3 (or ps4) to be able to play. You don't need another subscription, but you do need another copy of the game.

Or don't waste your money on putting a SSD drive in your PS3.
