    Not really.

Try to remember FFXIV is the most graphically superior MMO available right now. No other MMO looks this good, so it makes sense that it'll have teething problems.

And if you think this is bad try Duke Nukem Forever on a console. That suffers from terrible FPS lag and 2 minute loading times, all because they didn't optimise it for consoles, and that's on an engine that's 4 years old.

Ive never come across any of these issues you are saying here. And my PC hardly goes above 40-55celsius, and I'm running the game at max settings except AO and Depth of field.

Would be nice if you could post the specs of your PCs: Motherboard, CPU, RAM, GPU etc
My PC is: Intel i7 920, 6gb ram, Asus P6T Deluxe x2, Asus Radeon 6970HD, Casing is Coolermaster HAF932Big. And FFXIV is installed on SSD drives.

Yeah, you're not getting these problems 'cos your computer is pretty much up-to-date and well above the minimum specs

Those of us using hardware that's a few years old are the ones getting problems. Heck, I'm still using Windows XP!

I wonder if FFXIV works on Windows 98...

Whilst I'm looking forward to the Ifrit fight I'm also kinda worried about it, if his effects are as flashy as some of the ones I've seen so far I'm gonna be expecting my FPS to crash-land with no survivors.

Yeah, this is mainly the reason why I am mostly a Console gamer, since then the game is usually built within its specs. While with PCs, new tech keeps sprouting up much faster, and costs more then for example replacing a PS2 and buying a PS3.

Ive done this ever since NES/Sega Master System up to PS3/X360 ^^
So I cant wait for FFXIV to finally hit PS3. If they decide not to release it in EU, im flying to Japan to have a talk with SE. So many fun titles Ive missed out on since they have only been released in JP/US.

Like PS2 Fullmetal Alchemist. I saw the trailers and I died a little inside when I heard it wasnt available in EU.

    Know what you mean. I can't get Hatsune Miku or Haruhi Suzumiya games in the U.K ; ;

I doubt FFXIV would work on Win98, does it even support DirectX9? lol

I hope they do improve and optimize the client so it runs smoother but for now I can manage with a stable 50+ FPS everywhere

Minimum requirement for Windows is XP. So it will not run on a Win98 PC.

DX9 does actually work on Win98 (oddly enough), most of my hardware doesn't though, last time I installed Win98 on my computer it'd only run for 5 minutes then the whole computer would shut down because it couldn't handle the faster operation (basically my computer would try to run Win98 'too fast' and burn itself out because of it)

@Altera: they said that about Doom 3, but there's always ways around it

    Two ways of doing water.

    1. Have a low poly large plane and let the GPU render the water using shaders.
    2. Have a a high poly mesh covers the areas you want.

While small bodies of water, puddles etc, will usually use method 2 since they need to be contained to a certain area when dealing with large areas of water like oceans you usually use a large plane to cover the entire area. Its a lot less work on the GPU than passing large meshes to it.
