you incur enmity by actively taking action against a mob. When you stop taking action you stop incurring enmity.
You don't gain more enmity by doing nothing.

Hate to point at the hole in your bucket here. but hate don't fall off by its self. Go cure some one during a fight, tell me when the hate pip vanishes.
