They don't. Most of those SCHs need to learn how to properly use their job without them. The macros are actually not a good thing most of the time, it is just an unfortunate trend that started with some people a while ago and spread

Did no one else pick up that he is leveling healer to be a mentor, but asked this very question?
This is an issue itself... I realize he did say later that he has a lot to learn, but you should really know this stuff before thinking of being one. It just seems off to me.
I mean, it's not a question about how to play the class even, but asking if it is even a useful class...

Yeah, I know it's silly. It's not something that decided by forum community, but the player who about to become a mentor. Some people say SCH is the best and they have best DPS. Which is complete nonsense, personal preference talk. There is a reason why WHM has best offensive casting abilities out of 3 healers. There is also another reason why ASTs are supportive with their cards and abilities. People need to know this by playing every jobs. Otherwise, you are not a good mentor. But someone pretending to be one with little knowledge.Did no one else pick up that he is leveling healer to be a mentor, but asked this very question?

It's just like in real life. Just because you earned the title, it doesn't mean you are exceptionally good at it. I have people at my work who do their jobs, but are lazy at the same time.. or too concerned about themselves that they don't take things serious. I believe it's about proffetionalism and nothing personal or pride.

As much as I don't want to be 'that guy', you kind of contradict yourself heavily here. Those who have played and invested time in all healer jobs will say Scholar DPS is in fact the best of the three. On paper it may not be the highest, but it's only through playing the other jobs that it becomes evident that Scholars have the best tools for good, sustained DPS.
I agree with your point that it is great to learn more about your role by playing other jobs, but I think that was just one bad example. ;p

I guess you haven't been in Sephirot Ex.

It is and I don't know how to improve it while still having it be a reasonable thing. Maybe a randomized moderatly difficult test that for example has questions like:
"What does Suiton do?"
"What does cleric stance do?"
"True or false, if you aren't tank, you should sand in the bosses cleave?"
"The bosses cleave is: A B C D"

I submitted a suggestion to SE concerning this, it involved:
Abolishing the novice network. It's nothing more than a communication channel and offers nothing new when there are FC and LS chats around
Novice network comes with one issue. Imagine throwing the healer DPS question in there. Those who are familiar with the healer forum knows all hell will break lose.
Too many mentors per (new) adventurer
Novices aren't limited to sprouts. Even a veteran tank may have questions for mentors who specialise in healing
(New) adventurers who want help, would seek help. If they want in on the novice network, they'd want in on social linkshells (which also serves as a network)
Having mentors select a "master" role/job. So that (new) adventurers who seek help, can seek according to role/job, rather than throwing a random question in there
Have indicators when searching the mentor whether they're free, afk or already tutoring others (so replying may take longer)
It's not really mentoring as it is. It's just a #9 linkshell with know-it-alls. Not to mention that this form of mentoring is far from personal and does not allow sprouts to establish a bond and/or network on an individual level
