Warriors of Darkness

What's up with these guys? I remember them being in ARR opening cutscene and I think they made a brief appearance in Answers as well. What strikes me as odd is in the original cutscene they appear to be peaceful and since it's a perfect combination of races/classes I figured they were meant to represent a generic party i.e. a group of Player Characters. But fast forward to Heavensward and it appears Square has to decided to give them an identity. I remember seeing the Warrior in a cutscene with the Ascian on what appeared to be Eorzeas moon. So, is anyone else puzzled by their origins/motives or can anyone shed some light? (No pun intended)

Long story short, a party of seemingly generic adventurers, just like the ones in the trailers for our patches, was once in our shoes - ready to take down the Ascians on Hydaelyn's order. (Though, I'd still like to know if he had the Blessing of Light glyph; the implications of that are kind of... bigger.) The trailer party still exists, though. DRGlander (acting as a stand-in for us) was in the very same trailer as Darklander (Warrior of Darkness). Kinda awkward that they look exactly the same, or is that the point!?

Everything between then and now is left to our imagination, but we're meant to assume that Elidibus revealed The Truth™ and now they "walk a different path". They are meant to make us doubt ourselves; if even Derplander joined Elidibus, should we? What do they know? Why do we not know? Why does Elidibus keep talking about balance, and why do they agree with him? What is going on!? IS IT SPITEWARDENS!?

It all comes down to one question: Who's really doing the right thing?

Elidibus is the white-robed Ascian - an emissary from Zodiark ("the one true god") to the children of Hydaelyn. Though the black-robed Ascians want to help Zodiark manifest His revenge, he claims he just wants to put this world back on the proper path. He also occasionally talks about putting things in a proper balance and has mentioned that if we fully comprehended the Echo, we would be of one mind. He has a lot of information about the way things really are, but shares it very quietly and selectively.

A lot of people see him as a very careful manipulator, treading the line between the Ascians and the children of Hydaelyn to accomplish some larger, more meaningful agenda than either. I think that's very possible. But, personally, I'm suspicious. I see him as (or perhaps just hope that he is) more of a Seymour Guado or Vayne Solidor type character; someone you spend half the game thinking, "This guy's legit. Why aren't more people listening to this guy? So sensible." and the rest of the game wondering how you didn't see through it before it was too late to stop them without catastrophic losses.

Time will tell!

Elidibus is the White Robed Ascian.

Xande is the Allagan Emperor that imprisioned Bahamut inside of Dalamud.

The trailer party still exists, though.

Unless I see short blond pigtailed Dunesfolk in White Robes or a Sea Wolf in Silver Armor, I'm inclined to say only lolDRGlander still exists :P

Onto more serious talk. They were introduced the patch before The Gears of Chance, a certain post-dungeon event revealing and confirming that there was (and likely still are) multiple dimensions. I'd like to posit that the Warriors of Darkness came from one such dimension and in fact are AU versions of the Trailer group (that we will never ever see because Louisoux placed them in Limbo while we go replace them in events that actually matter :P)

If you're referring to the opening cinematic from ARR, that would be Louisoix Leveilleur.
