All healers are viable, it's just a matter of getting used the toolkit you're given and finding a kit that you enjoy playing with. You can extend that by making sure you understand how you can compliment your healing partner in 8-man runs and communicating with them what sort of responsibilities you'd both like to have (generally not a big deal in HM primals / normal raids, more of a thing in EX / Savage tier raids).

SCH isn't considered the main healer most of the time, but the consensus is that SCH has the strongest kit of the three healers. That might be where your confusion sparked from.

I think you might be right, thanks for clearing that up.

I'm actually kind of excited now about getting on with levelling my WHM

It's undeniable. Both in party and solo content. Most of the solo videos out there are SCH. I don't know where Warrior stands after the damage nerfs.

I wasn't disagreeing with Ghishlain, don't worry about that. If you're a regular on the healer forum, you should have an idea what I am referring to.

...I feel like this particular thread is not the best place for you to find your answers based on some of the misleading posts, I'd recommend that you continue your research in other threads and such.

All healers are solid on their own, and outside of the absolute top-tier raids you won't notice a difference in which healer is better suited to which circumstance if their both competent, with the exception of SCH being fantastic at more maintained DPS. Keep in mind questions like this will get answers based on the top tier raiding, it's not nearly as relavent in any NM, HM, or pre 3.2 content.

I think you raise a good point, though i do find it interesting hearing the opinions of people more established in the role I'm levelling.

Healing in FF is the complete opposite of what I've been accustomed to, but i have to say I'm enjoying it!

Had a whm practically solo heal Sephy Ex with me on SCH. I had to do minimal healing. It was crazy, 900 on the first phase and second phase, 730 for the overall encounter. @-@ if If you didn't know it has lots of 50%health damaging aoe s and tank busters that can drop a tank without cds from 100% to 5%.
    Whms are amazing.

I main WHM but fiddled a bit with all of them and it more or less does just come down to play style and what you prefer.

AST: Healing/Buff management with their card system. Takes a little bit more to master from what I've seen. (which is standard of the jobs added in HW)
    WHM: Straight heals and HoT's.
SCH: Shields/Fairy and Aether stack management.

Any of the three are valid so long as they are played correctly so settle on whichever you prefer. Or level them all and switch it up. I do find that as WHM I end up as the main healer on most occasions if it comes down to myself and a SCH. WHM may have more burst DMG but SCH can maintain it and seems to suffer less MP wise if they DPS for long periods of time. So I usually start out in cleric, cast all my dots and then spend the rest of my time healing unless there are adds or something that need killing like in the first boss of Void etc. Its just beneficial to the party overall that I take on as much of the healing as I can so that the SCH can DPS. As for an AST it depends which stance they decide to play in. If I have double HoT's I tend to DPS a bit more so long as they look like they can handle it. Glad to see FFXIV converted someone else to healing. I'm still trying to figure out how I ended up here myself. XD

I am always ready for the salt train! o^_____^o

...mainly because I tend to speak my mind and even if I know the opinion I speak is unpopular I'll still speak it because I'd like to think I'm a huge proponent of balance and do enjoy a good discussion. It just would be nicer if some posters can refute arguments better than either using false / incorrect information or flat out telling you that "you're wrong / threatened / terrible" without any additional explanation as to why.
