    Realism or artistic consistency???
At easter we were wearing eggs on our heads. A couple of months ago, they implemented swimsuits.

    Yeah.... thats realism

I love the final fantasy art designs, and i mean all final fantasies. I didn't like ffxiii or FFxii as games but i loved the art. Gimme more of that please.

I disagree with the OP. For other weapons, sure, go with a more realistic style. However, this is Ifrit we're talking about here. Horns and fire and glowing are something you would expect from a weapon dropped by Ifrit.

Just because they are embellishing with the new weapons you get for killing a primal (which, btw, is apparently a "big deal) doesn't mean they are turning towards a Cartoony style. We're playing a Final Fantasy MMO here. Expect some embellishment. I would like a mix. You can't say the Legatus has a realistic set of armor (gunblade, huge helmet with horns), but it's still awesome. That set is just as embellished as these new weapons, just a different aesthetic style. Fine, you think they are ugly, but don't start acting like Square Enix is selling out or something.

(I didn't go through the entire thread. 25 pages is a lot to catch up on.)

Insulting people in the counter argument isn't going to change their minds. It will make them stick harder to their opinion regardless of whether or not it's right, and think less of your opinion simply because you insulted them. In essence, if you want to try and change someone's mind, come up with a well thought-out response and don't be a dick.

I think big and over sized weapons (wow style) are not going to fit with FFXIV current style, I would like them to be a mix of old style weapon (traditional) with new style designs. So the weapon/equipment itself would be traditional but it would have markings or detail on it that shows new detail, I am not against glowing weapons but not over the top glaring ones something very subtle. Something like Elder Scrolls IV high lvl equipment/weapons and in terms of glowing like Frodo's orc sword form LOTR films.

The ifrit weapons are great nothing wrong with any of them.
Yes there over the top but at the same time there not!
The ifrit weapons are supposed to be grand after you have just beat one of the biggest things in FF universe!
i would love to see more unique weapons to play with rather then having weapons that are all plan and look the same

I don't agree the art style in FFXI is cartoon like in the same way from what I've seen of it at all.
A better reference would have been EQ probably, but that's more due to the age of them.

FFXIV has better general graphics then well all mmo's really and has no need for the simpler style used in those games.
But since wow it has been around generally MMO titles (RIFT/WAR an so on) have taken on a more cartoon look as it is easier to do.
While Rift was a huge improvement the style was similar in many ways..
There is nothing wrong with that at all, but this game didn't start out like that, and it was a selling point for me, I would just prefer for it to remain that way.

Btw fail "Quoting" you missed a work.

The Armour and Gunblade have the same style as all the other weapons/armour in the game.
But they have that (o.O) look, That is how I want our Epic weapons (ok not so we look like were in he empire but), very Stylish and not just big and bulky..
But I'd be happy with the style of the effects they added as its so wanted by people..

I think someone forgot other FF games had glowing weapons with effects on them.

Yes but apparently final fantasy weaponry isn't welcome in final fantasy XIV

I think it's mostly because these are the first organic weapons we've seen in the game.
Many of us are not used to nor where we expecting it.

Only replicas of real world implements, unfortunately. We're going to have to change magic as well; it will have to be just a mental effect that causes severe damage/pain thus taking HP. So 'Fire' would just make you feel on fire... This way we can be consistent with the realism.
