And the weapons you just linked look JUST as elaborate as the ifrit weapons! you do know the blue sword on the right in that pic glows and ripples like water don't you? Geez!

Isn't it dumb how everyone was screaming that FFXIV didn't feel like a Final Fantasy game, and then when SE put in weaponry that's typical of the weaponry in Final Fantasy games of the past everyone complains?

I mean, cloud's buster sword, squalls gunblade, tidus's brotherhood sword, aurons swords in general, most of the weaponry in ff13, and ffx-2, and some of the ones in ff12, and ff9, take a look at the ultima weapon and try to say elaborate shining weaponry isn't an FF weapon.

You all wanted FFXIV to feel like an FF game, now SE are putting in things to make it like an FF game, if you didn't want it to be an FF game then you should have gone asking for Medievil Fantasy instead.
Sorry I took so long to reply to this.

They are more elaborate then the Ifrit set but also very conservative. none of those weapons are bulky or cheesy. They are a class above the ifrit weapons. If you can't tell the difference then I'm sorry for that. The swords in that image file retain their function and practicality as well as being beautiful.

'Korean' described the art style of Korean MMOs which they use giant weapons that glow and flash and are gimmicky. If you have played Aion or other games (WoW which isn't korean but has these types of items also is a good example) then you know what im talking about. I wasn't saying the weapons in that image file were korean.

All the weapons you mention from other FF titles aren't really that crazy. They fit their world and their respectful characters while still remaining what they are. The Ifrit Items do not appear to fit the world or type of MMO in which FFXIV is styled in. This is what we on our side are saying. Hell, any one of those swords in that image file fit better into the game (Not as ifrit drops though, maybe one of the red swords if you added some texture or something, im over generalizing obviously).

I honestly don't think that these weapons are "cartoony", and their proportions aren't nearly as exaggerated as the absurd WoW shoulder pads (or WoW anything for that matter).

I will say that I am all for absurdly sized weapons, as long as the same care and detail put into them as is put into the armor/weapons of the Monster Hunter franchise (if you aren't familiar with the series, most of the weapons are as big, if not bigger than your character. It also boasts some of the best armor, weapon, and monster design of any game that I've ever played) - which if anything is what the Ifrit rewards reminded me of.

Hydaelyn is a world where a three foot tall Lalafell can chuck someone nearly three times his size out of a bar. Final Fantasy is a series where the absurd, and impossible are typically embraced. I would hope that the devs and artists for XIV do not limit themselves by the bleak "black and brown, everything should be realistic" picture that the OP seems to wish for. This game is brown enough as it is, please continue to embrace color and variety, SE.
I want great swords too, I miss them as well. However you say they wouldn't be able to be used base don the OP's choice of words. They worked in XI, and depending on your character side they get scaled. Lalafell's would be like a twig haha. Nothing wrong with Claymore's. They really existed.

I like the art of the game as it is, we dont need to tell the professionals how to do their job.
They OBVIOUSLY know what type of art looks out of place and theres no reason at all for anyone to think that the art stye is going to change to WoW style.
Let them do their job as they want, it will be good.

I'm saying that by the OP's line of logic, a weapon that is as big as your character should not exist in Hydaelyn.

This weapon would be unwieldy in the real world, especially by a person the size and stature of a miqo'te. However Hydaelyn is not the real world, and I don't like it when people imply that the game SHOULD adhere to most, if not all real world logic. This is a fantasy world, where I can shoot fire from a stick, and where boats fly in the air. I am more than happy to see a stronger focus on fantasy weapons and armor, especially if they add color into this otherwise earth tone world.

:Edit: Anyway, this isn't worth debating. There's always a vocal minority that bitches about every new addition to the game, and then promptly S(s)TFU once the patch hits. This thread falls into that category.

The weapons look horrible. The reason for this is because they are completely out of place with the rest of the game design. Gaudy. Bloated. Ridiculous. Yes, I will continue to bash anything in this game that presents itself as like WoW material because I play this game because it is NOT WoW and much has, and continues to present itself in this game as WoW inspired. "Rift" modeled their entire game to be like WoW, why wouldnt it out of the question that SE would input WoWs character as well to hope for a bit of WoWs success?

Yeah, such apologist attitude will surely make this game blossom.

am I wrong in thinking that you were the poster who was complaining about the ifrit weapons not being practical due to their size? If you are said person, the weapons from FFX are not practical because of their shape. Anyone who knows anything about weaponry knows that such weapons would be fragile at points of the blade. With that being said, your argument is invalid as practicality should have nothing to do with how awesome a weapon is. FFX had awesome swords and the FFXIV Ifrit weapons are awesome as well.

Just a quick link, this FFXI sword looks about the same as the FFXIV Ifrit sword.http://www.ffxiah.com/screenshots/17454

FFXI had weapons such as the Ifrit weapons before WoW even came out. You people need to get off of that debate because you aren't going to win it. The Ifrit weapons are not "WoWish" by any means. The previous weapons all had very bland designs and according to the polls, I'm not the only one to believe this. I welcome this new design and hope to see more like this: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...he5tr.jpg/sr=1
