I already regretted missing the Rising Event, now I am even more. Guess the question I have no is whether that means its either Red OR Blue, or if it just means which one they want to work on first and both are (presumbably) coming in 4.0 alongside SAM.
In the Rising event (the last anniversary event we had) Samurai and Red Mage (positive on the former, pretty sure on the latter) were named specifically, so the potential for them appearing is higher than other jobs. Blue mage was also referenced in unnamed NPC interactions ("Red!" "No, Blue!" or something).
Really the rising event tells you we are definitely going to get red mage and samurai. Then I guess I should say that because the little ladies day event talked about dancers we will definitely be getting dancer right. Wrong! Just because an event talks about some job class doesn't mean we will be getting that job class. Sorry to say.
exept the rising event this time was the npc of the dev team in the dev room... and if you want a proof:
point to note, every jobs named by yoshida are the one that did come out... so far Yoshida in all the interview did talk of the gunner class (machinist), ninja (for the scout class), the dark knight, the red mage and the samurai... no other jobs was really talk about by yoshida.
The crossclass skills of future jobs are pretty impossible to guess.
3 Rogue skills (Shade Shift, Goad and Death Blossom) are crossclassible but no job can currently use them.
4.0 could bring in a complete rebalancing of the crossclass skill system.
We do not know which roles the future jobs will have and what equipment they will use. We can't even seriously guess at what mechanics they will use.
The Rising was different. We were told before hand that hints about future content would be in it.Really the rising event tells you we are definitely going to get red mage and samurai. Just because an event talks about some job class doesn't mean we will be getting that job class. Sorry to say.
It doesnt matter what they do. There will be alot of angry ppl once redmage is released. Please look forward to it.
Samurai should be a deeps just like dark knight should of been. Something else should have been a tank... like a berserker or something (ffv Great hammer weilder). With this dev team wanting to keep everything different from ffxi, in before samurai weilds Tenseiga and you attack people with it to heal/revive them![]()
Only Samurai was ever "confirmed". Red Mage is just in your head. And expanded classes have no attachment to other core classes as we've seen. Hopefully they continue to steer away from generic classes. Red Mage is about as generic as it gets. Some type of Magic Swordsman melee dps/caster would be more interesting.

You mean... like a red mage? Taken from the context of FFXI, Red Mage supplemented their melee damage with enchantment spells (Enfire, Enthunder etc), and they could cast curative and destructive magic. Don't get hung up on the name, it's the mechanics which are more important.
That said, I have a feeling that future classes are going to go down a similar route to Dark Knight, Machinist and Astrologian. That is, they will start as jobs, have zero cross-class skills and begin at level 30. Personally, I find that disappointing as cross-class skills are the bread-and-butter of being able to customise a class at the moment. We don't really have much in the way of specialisation or customisation, so some new classes with some decent cross-class skills would be nice.
THe Berserk is the Warrior, they just change the name, even has a skill called Berserk. And they should be a DPS class. Samurai suits more to be a tank, since they use heavy armour, and the samurai code say they must fight with honor, face to face enemies, and not attack from behind or shadows, like the ninjas. It has much more sense a Samurai tank than DPS. I know FFXI samurai was DPS, but I still think suits more the tank class. Auron form FFX is a Samurai, and he is like a tank, having provoke skill on his sphere grid area, high base HP and cover / sentinel skills. It doesnt matter what they do. There will be alot of angry ppl once redmage is released. Please look forward to it.
