the only guidelines that are necessary are common sense. Mentors in a mentoring channels have no space to speak of anything else other then things related to the game in itself to newbies, nothing else is needed, that is the basic use of that channel. Is chit chat necessary ? not necessary no, but can be a good change if moderation is there.
The original intention of SE is to let the playerbase regulate itself, but alas in a game like this together with western mentality, is not possible. Too much power is given to the player base.
There should be mods ONLY for Mentoring channels that regulate that and NOT everybody regulating everybody. Their job would be to control what is happening and sanction right away. Just like it happens in these Forums if it goes out of hand.
You will see that after a few sanctions and warnings things will adjust fast.
I will say it again, Mentoring is NOT something to be taken lightly, and from the so many posts around, it seems to be taken as a joke, when in truth the Mentor will give the first impression of how the community is as a whole. yeah that bad
Regulating the mentor system to a 2 key requirements to start with for testing purposes would of prevented this problem.
Reqirement 1: Must posses a Legacy Account.
2: Had participate in (Alpha-1)-(Alpha-4) Testing
3.Must have at lest 1000+ Dungeons instaces or raids complted.
4.Legacy Rank must be at levlel 11 or above.
the quality of the mentors would go up real fast with those qualification. I have played with most of them and they were the best group of individuals I have ever partyed with since Alpha-1
That's too restrictive, because then we would have no mentors in servers that aren't Legacy.Regulating the mentor system to a 2 key requirements to start with for testing purposes would of prevented this problem.

This system... doesn't need regulation. Let's face it the ones who are mentoring it are only in it for the roulette. If you make it harder for me to do my roulette because the chat log of the people I actually want to talk to is being pushed up by a dude trying to trouble shoot a noobie in how to First Person view on PS4.... When I'm on mac and have no idea. It's fine as it is for what little it is, if you make it so it's actually a job to maintain, then you'll see a lot of people drop off.
What might be more helpful is to make sub channels like sub sections of housing. So this way if people are afk in one channel, swap channels and ask your question. Should help a lot more.

No. Just no. Requiring a Legacy account/alpha1-4 testing? Many qualified mentors, myself included, would not be able to become one. There would be too few, perhaps not enough to have a mentor always on.
I propose making the requirements stricter, for sure. Perhaps having 1000 commends instead of 300, or having classes of a certain ilvl. I would even go as far as creating a lengthy quest to unlock it. You want to make sure the mentors ACTUALLY want to be there. It should be a privilege, not a right.
Isn't that a good thing tho? if the people are willing to maintain it, they really are trying to be mentors no?
my main issue most of these mentors are in the network /just/ for the mentor title, rewards and what not. them being afk is one thing, but there are also those that ARENT AFK, and just hide the chat because " its too noisy" when in actuality they just don;t want to deal with this thing that SE Created. They want all the rewards but not the actual work for which this network is put up.
In the long run, I'm more worried about what /n is going to become. Either a barren chat because most of these "mentors" have filtered/hide the chat completely and/or just going to continue their afk ways in it.
Perhaps they should make it an option for mentors to actually select to login to the Network. That way we have less "mentors" who get placed there randomly by default and end up either not contributing and taking up space or who use it as a casual chill global chat cause they can.
^^ No, the mentor system shouldn't feel like an interactive unpaid intern for the SE Help Services. I'm open to helping and when I"m not doing my grind or involved in a important conversation with FC/LS, I pop on chat. But SE needs to make it so it's a separate chat that you can min/max so it's not killing your chat log. That's the big reason I don't leave it on, because I have people to talk to about important in game things, I can't afford to lose my chat to someone asking what the Exclamation marks on the map mean....
All for helping, but it should be a side service, not a job. So if there is to be change, please make it so I can min/max a secondary addendum window, exclusively for mentors. Rather then it being crammed into my already busy chat log.

I definitely agree with you about this. If someone wants to be a mentor, they should be willing to earn and maintain it (although I have no idea at the moment how maintaining it would work). I for one want to be a mentor simply because I enjoy talking to and helping new players. Everything else is just a bonus.
But in actuality it is like that. I know what you mean you want to help when you're free and what not, But the thing is that currently, there are many people in the mentor system because of^^ No, the mentor system shouldn't feel like an interactive unpaid intern for the SE Help Services. a)hype
b)Shiny Crown
c)Rewards/Rou
And as a result these players are getting in to what ever mentor slots is available the moment they log in. These players mostly feel liek you do, filtering/turning off the novice network because of the "spam" but by doing so you're depraving another person who doesn;t mind sitting through the "spam" and trying to actively help out, even if it is with stupid things like ! on maps
I think what it really needs is to stop the mentor auto login to the novice network. Make it so that mentors have to select to login to the network them selves. That way we can control and limit the ones that actually want to be in the network to help. While at the same time allowing those that jump onm the hype train or just to get reqards/status can keep those superficial things.
Edit : SE please increase character count for initial posts >_>
