Powerman 5000 have been around a really long time and had a pretty decent following way back when, especially with him riding off of Rob Zombies name.

But this song is just similar, and only in the verses, only a matter of time before music starts to repeat itself, only so many sounds we can make in the end.

Meanwhile, im off to listen to the stars revolt as this thread has given me a powerman itch!

I was thinking the exact same thing when I heard Sephirot's theme. I had a discussion with my FC lead over this topic last night. I've seen artists get sued over similarities in the past, ala Queen vs. Vanilla Ice. Hopefully nothing will come of this.

I completely agree here. I think honestly at this point I'm concerned about Soken as a creative person. I like him I do .. its just.. he borrows a lot.

And i'm starting to worry that maybe Square is over working him. Maybe Se could bring it some guest composers to break things up a bit. Bring a bit more diversity musically to FFXIV but also give Soken's creative side some time to recharge. I think all artist need that from time to time.

But then the SE execs wouldn't be able to siphon off as much of FF14's revenue into BS Remakes and Cellphone Games. /Sarc

The Queen vs Vanilla Ice was that Ice actually used the sample from "Under Pressure" without permission at all...not because they "sounded similar". It was the same sample.
This song is a bit different.

In the US, you can get copyright issues for things that sound "substantially similar" though, even one cord progression if it's deemed unique enough.

Best I can tell is that particular response is from a fan, not the band. Nonetheless the band does appear to take issue with the track given their FB post.

I can only hope for the best of this situation if this is true. I don't want to see Soken and SE take a hit because of this. D:
