...Did noooot think of it like that. Well played. Well played.True, WAR may represent a small percentage of the community, but you also have to consider the even smaller percentage who does content that actually matters what Job(s) you bring. If you looked at just the Savage population alone, I'm rather confident that WAR number would be much higher.
After 7 months and still not tired of whining?
Midas wasn't even out when you posted this, so I dunno what you were trying to do with a thread like this other than fill the forums with morePLDex-DRG players' tears.
All I hear people complaining about tanks is, "lets make them all pretty much the same" to which I say no. Making everything the same is also bad game design. One class will essentially be better than others, its inescapable.
A possible way to make PLD and DRK less terrible off tanks would be to increase the mitigation effects on Halone and Delirium/DK to 15% so together they're superior to Storm's Path alone. This wouldn't solve the issue of DRK being replaceable if you have a monk, so there might need to be some way to trigger Reprisal while OTing without unbalancing DRK's DPS. Honestly a lot of these issues arise from the fact that its patently obvious the devs didn't even consider the possibility of PLD and DRK being viable off tanks, since they have a huge number of skills designed solely to function when you're being hit. PLD and DRK aren't a mess just because of numbers, they're a mess also because they're poorly designed classes, PLD specially has one of the most bizarre, all over the place toolkits in the game, with very little synergy between any of its abilities.

Unless you have a mob that uses physical and magical even, you don't really need both of them.
And, nothing prevent PLD or DRK to put those debuffs when MT.
Also, DRK and PLD have CD that only works when MT (Sheltron, Bulwark, Reprisal, Dark Dance, etc...) and CD that mostly works on MT, even if it could be useful (All pure mitigation skills). Whereas WAR can use Raw Intuition or Vengeance for a free stack, even if you don't use the parry effect or if you don't mitigates anything.
You could enforce PLD or DRK as OT by giving offensive benefits to their defensive cooldown, or give them a new rotation when OT. For example, concentrating GB and RoH effect so that you need to rotate GB - RoH - GB - RoH as MT, and GB - RA - GB - RA as OT...maybe with a little more potency gap between RoH and RA.
For DRK, as I said in another topic, you could increase SE's potency (around 350), and change Dark Arts so that it only increase the leech effect. As an OT, you wouldn't spend so much DA on SoulEater, opening room for more skills to use it. For example DA + Blood Weapon could spread the effect to the whole team, DA + Sole Survivor could put a leech HP for everyone hitting the target...
WAR would still be a good job, but PLD/DRK could be viable too, and also WAR/PLD or WAR/DRK, since WAR already has a great toolkit for MT.
thats how it is with every game. Even in a video game that has top notch balance there always be something better than another. Look at fighting games. Tier list wouldn't exist otherwise.
Even if dps problem is fixed, Dark and Paladin still have flaws that are very apparent (tempered will anyone?). Melee dps are imo the most balanced, but there is a still a preference in which jobs to take over others for the reason the guy posted above. For every situation there will always be something better used than another. Its not as simple as taking away dps checks. All that does is make more jobs viable for the current content. Doesn't make them AT THE CORE "better" as it was evident last patch that toolkit wise warrior stood out on top ignoring dps. Overall synergy with moves was just better.

Tier list is something else.
You can be very high of the list even if most of your scores are bad.
Example :
Let's take 4 character : A, B, C and DA : 16 points
- A vs B : A wins 8 times, B wins 2
- A vs C : A wins 4 times, C wins 6
- A vs D : A wins 4 times, C wins 6
- B vs C : B wins 6 times, C wins 4
- B vs D : B wins 6 times, C wins 4
- C vs D : C wins 5 times, D wins 5
B : 14 points
C : 15 points
D : 15 points
So A is top tier...but it's still "weaker" than C and D.
And in tier lists, you can several characters with the same score, so they'd be "balanced" in regards to the list even if one of them wrecks the other one on one.
Tempered Will is not a flaw, Cover is not a flaw. In fact, since the game is really simple, a job doesn't need a lot of skills to be really usefull. In the end, it's a matter of potency above all else. Utility comes when your potency is lower.

An idea I'm thinking of...
Cover can be good in a pinch if you are paying attention to party enmity generation, you can make it work in your favor. I'm going to practice this in Sword Oath.
Party enmity is clearly listed below your job icon (fyi if you didn't know...I just found out yesterday after playing since 1.0 xD) and if the DPS's enmity bar comes insanely close to yours, then you will know who to Cover.
I'm not saying you should do this! Haha. As this will probably cause your DPS to hate you for the boss staring at them and missing a positional, or wipe others besides the person you are covering from a cleave.
Given the perfect situation, you Cover a WAR/DRK in your party while in SwO before a tank swap, or if your WAR/DRK is spamming the enmity combo during that time.
So much salt from OP, every single post I have read from him is a personal vendatta against warriors, why warriors should get a mandatory spot, why they should be nerf, ect.
Lets go back to 2.0, remember the days where you get kick from any party if you play warrior , were double paladin was the meta(yes I do remember does days very well). Then 2.1 come around and redesign look on warrior kit come around and they did a splendid job.
Is not that warrior is overpowered, is that paladin and dark knight need to be have a kit redesign.
Instead of people crying and moaning about nerfing warriors, instead should be asking for a better look how could paladin and dark knight be redesign to complement different setup/combination, so any combination is liable. The design team really needs to go back to the drawing board to be honest.
Also I wonder why we don't have a public test server for the community to give feedback went there a major design changes.
