I'm curious, how would that work? They would need to make PS3-exclusive servers so it doesn't conflict with the up to date game, now that would be a mess. I'm more inclined to believe they'll drop the ps3 client someday in the future and offer an incentive to migrate to either ps4 or PC.

no they wouldnt need to make exclusive servers. with they way they do expansions, you are mainly just buying the rights to go to the new area. all they have to do is make that right not buyable on ps3.ps3 would still get the data for items so they would display when partied with people from new zones, but wouldnt be able to get to the zone.

The answer is two-fold;

Graphically and performance wise, Consoles hold the game back. The game is made with weaker visuals to accomodate the consoles. This is something that's ok to disagree on.

However; the consoles also help the game. You'd be a fool to ignore the Console crowd of FFXIV, regardless of your distaste for them. They bring in extra money, and that's good for the company that is Square Enix.

Still, given the option, assuming there would be no dip in quality (heh), I would choose not to have PS3/4 players. No disrespect to them - there's just too many without a keyboard or who use excuses of their console as a shield and excuse. I'd rather people be on a unified platform.

PC players with controllers and PC players on less than ideal PCs are gonna get you for this.

You want a unified platform? OK, which CPU and GPU are you going to lockstep people into? A unified platform is a platform that is the same for everyone (just like a console), rather than the current situation where the game scales to the hardware you have. You're actually advocating consoles by asking for a unified platform.

Do you have any concept of the public relations nightmare that doing that would create considering the public promises made about the PS3 version going back almost as far as the PS3 launch itself? PS3 will *not* be discontinued during the 3.X patch series. The PS3 client will continue to function within the 2.X and 3.X zones even if it does not receive the 4.0 expansion and future updates.

To suppose otherwise is ridiculous. Just as it's equally ridiculous to think that suddenly SE will shift the minimum spec for PC users upwards effectively killing the gameplay for anyone on an older PC who is currently able to play. Not to mention the preposterous idea that the PS4 is holding the game back, or that it would be discontinued any time soon.

That's known already since they've already mentioned they won't be discontinuing during 3.x but in a future expansion, and that by discontinuing I meant what you've exactly said. When it happens then they won't have PS3 in mind for future updates.

Dropping PS3 doesn't mean they should only focus on improving the graphics, but it would give them more opportunity to improve on the accessibility and convenience of the game, like improving the game's UI and other interfaces for example, and to develop content they had in mind that somehow couldn't have happen because of the PS3 holding them back.

PS4 isn't even holding the game back at all, and it would be ridiculous if they ever did discontinue it so early in its life. I never had the idea that it was actually a hindrance and just included the PS4 in my statement because we're talking about consoles in general, not just PS3.

Fun fact.... My friends often think im a pc player and my fc..... And i always have to remind them im on ps4 and they are always suprised, and im always the last bugger to die in raids and often carry players around lol

People who use console for an excuse for there own screw ups needs to stop, i have ran into a few of this people and i do bite them for it

There are a lot of players and even world firsts who use controller set up to win, controller is just as fast as mouse and keyboard, but players need to get it in there head that it a prefured style, for me controller is better because i hate mapping key to keyboards and using mouse D:

And those consoles players who take for ever to type.... Please get a usb keyboard it makes things a lot easyier to comunicate

I litterally use 36 buttons on AST with controller without changing tabs

8 = L2
8 = R2
8 = L2 +R2
8 = R2 + L2

I really wish they dropped support for the PS3 with heavensward tbh.

I like how everyone keeps saying if you drop the PS3 they will improve graphics.....the same people who won't add butts or non-humanoid races because it would be too much work for the armor and can't make us barefoot because they'd have to figure in the height.....i highly doubt they'd feel like making improvements to the graphics.

That's not exactly what I said. Some people think the game would be better if the game simply ceased to exist for console gamers, which would mean way less profits for Square. I don't deny what you said, but in that scenario, wouldn't the devs still be bound to keep the game more or less the same across the board as they have been doing now? I don't think they would suddenly have two versions of the game to maintain for the sake of having a "better" game on PC.

You can say the same thing about PS4/PC only bringing much more profits than PS3 users because of how it's a next gen game and the major improvements that couldn't be done on a PS3. Everybody who has a PS3 is most likely going to get a PS4 anyway so it doesn't really effect anything long term.
