Sure, it did. But it doesn't change the fact that it was mediocre compared to past FF titles, and a huge amount of people are not impressed with FF and SE in general with the current generation of gaming.
alot of ppl considered ff8 a flop after ff7, but along came ff9 and all was forgiven. one bad game don't destroy a brand
What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.
Not destroy, damage it. But how about two in a row? Followed by some pretty pathetic damage control and press releases by SE and the former FFXIV management team?
I always thought FF9 was a flop compared to 7 and 8.
No one can really say any game is a 'failed' game, opinions, responses, reviews and sales will differ all over the world. Just 'cos it's not so good in one country doesn't mean it's the same in another. Last I heard FFX-2 did fantastic in Japan but not so good in US and EU.
Just depends on the generalised market of the country, y'know?
XIII wasn't openly mocked world round, nor was it a bad, broken game by any means. The main complaint was the fact it was linear, despite the fact all FF games are heavily linear veiled by the fact they have an overworld.
By the way, NA/EU had 3 months to not buy the game as there were tons of Live Streams, Reviews and Video Walkthroughs on Youtube to make the uniform decision the game "sucked"...however the opposite happened, it sold very well. People said FFX and FFX-2 damaged the name, yet again both games sold very well. Even people considered Eternal Sonata a flop which again wasn't a bad game at all, it's just hard to keep up and please gamers who want everything to be a fast paced action game no matter the genre.
People also said FFXI ruined the FF name by being an online game, yet it gave SE the most revenue out of all FFs. Being mediocre doesn't mean anything in terms of gaming because people will almost always want "another (insert)", much like what Capcom is doing with Resident Evil, I hated those games since RE4, yet they still sell very well.
