Only 20-some keybinds is really not too bad. I use about 40 or so (all class+cross class abilities, marking icons, special macros, etc), each with their own assigned keys.

I use a Razer Naga with my basic combat abilities assigned to the side buttons and tab targeting assigned to scroll wheel left and right click and target of target assigned to scroll wheel click. All other mouse buttons are default settings.

Then I use a Razer Orbweaver where I use the control stick for movement, the left most column of keys as ESC, ctrl, alt and focus target. The rest of the keys are programmed to be my shift+1,2,3, etc by default and are assigned to things like agro abilities, cd's and the like. Then all I have to do is hold the alt or ctrl keys with my pinky and hit one of the shift+ keys and the modifier (alt/ctrl) overrides shift to make them ctrl/alt+1,2,3 ...

That puts around 50 ability keybinds at my fingertips not even including movement, jumping, targeting and other stuff that I have bound to things as well like the scrollwheel.

If you don't want to get special peripherals then some of the ideas presented by others are a good way to go, such as rebinding some of the farther number keys such as anything past 6 to letter keys that see little to no use right near WASD so they are close by. That and using the modifiers like shift/ctrl/alt+ other keys is an absolute must and is standard for most PC MMO controls.

I managed to get my fingers all the way from 1-6 and wasd, the rest is done by mouseclick. Yah, I know, I'm proud of myself too. I still can't figure out how to use the buttons with ctrl/shift tho, since my fingers suddenly turn into Quasimodo-mode .__.
Somebody make a trainingsguide pls T_T

Regular mouse, regular keyboard. Don't need anything extra.
    Hotbar 1: 1234 ASDF ZXCV
    Hotbar 2: Alt + 1234 ASDF ZXCV
    Hotbar 3: Shift + 1234 ASDF ZXCV
Movement with QWE (can't move backwards but I always strafe anyway).
Facetarget on R, Focus target Shift+R.
Tilde or § or whatever on the left of 1 for Draw/Sheat Weapon, Alt+§ for Limit Break.
Whatever between Shift and Z (< for me) for mount and Alt+< for Sprint.
    T for autorun.
    Ctrl for Push-to-Talk in VOIP.

Just takes a bit of imagination.

If you are talking about actual console style controllers, I love the Steam Controller. Many people hate it and it does take a lot of tweaking and getting used to as it feels terrible at first but I am a huge customization nut so I love how much it allows me to tweak and change. If you want something more plug and play, easy and reliable a Xbox360 controller works great and the drivers for it are already in Windows so it pretty much just works with no hassle for any game that has controller support.

If you are talking about special MMO mice then I would recommend either the Razer Naga Chroma or the Logitech G600.

    IKR?

In all seriousness, I use: 1-6, Q E R T F G V B, then combinations of various mouse buttons with those. My mouse has four possible buttons to use, one of which is bound to my Push To Talk in my VoIP and one of which I use on its own (scroll wheel). I assigned one to Shift and one to Ctrl in the software for the mouse itself, and I find that I have more than enough space.

Some stuff I still activate by clicking just to make sure I don't fat-finger it or because speed isn't all that important (mounts, etc).

I use a G600 as well, but have all my movement mapped to that, and all my actions mapped to my left-hand (except for a few not-emergency rarely used abilities). I found it much much easier than trying to move with two hands and also mash buttons with both hands.

Just get a Razer Naga mouse. It works wonders, but I don't use the buttons on the side as MNK. Practicing Dexterity in your fingers also makes you a better player.

It really doesn't take long to remember where everything is.
Me too :c I don't have any fancy gaming mouse or keyboard, just these basics keeps me more than able to keep pace in a mid-core raiding group.
