Rouse Eos before Whispering Dawn. You might have to click WD an extra time to make sure she actually uses it.

If for whatever reason you want or have to stay away from the boss, then place your fairy near it (making sure she's not in front of it) so she'll still heal the tank. I've seen a lot of scholars stay at almost max range and keep their fairy by their side so she doesn't do anything. Be sure to put her back on Heel when you're done, if you move too far away she'll poof.

Scholar has really awesome mp recovery. Don't need your aetherflow stacks? Energy drain! Be sure to keep at least one stack though in case you need to throw out a lustrate or indomitability to save people's butts.

It becomes much easier to heal a fight once you learn its timing. You know party-wide damage is going out soon? Mitigate it with succor. Tankbuster incoming? Adloquium the tank. If it hits really hard you may want to virus the boss, too. But you have to be fast to put up that mitigation, chances are if you see the boss casting the move then you're already too late. Don't be afraid to use your cooldowns (either your fairy's or your own). Alternate between them at strategic moments if needed.

This is more of an arcanist thing, but you can set down shadow flare even if you turn your character around mid-cast... so if you want to do something useful while looking away from petrifaction/dragon's gaze/whatever then you can shadow flare.

Personally the only macro I have is to have my fairy cast Embrace on my mouseover target. It admittedly doesn't get much use but sometimes everyone around her is topped off, except for that one guy all the way over there. Or someone is missing just a tiny sliver of hp and it bothers me. Or I'm doing a fate or a hunt or something and I want to heal someone outside my party without healing them myself.
