Wasn't the guide mostly just "if you wanna know more about this section, look up this code"? Nowadays any game site can just give you the info straight out.I really enjoyed IX. The only downside to it was the whole PlayOnline thing for the secrets. The website is long gone and it's hard to find the secrets on another website in the same way they correspond to the game guide. YES, I use game guides. I get lost very easily otherwise. Sue me. :P

Kinda, yah. But you would miss out on good/powerful items, side quests, and other things if you didn't go online. I wish they'd release a new guide with the PlayOnline stuff added in. I still like to replay the game, even though the graphics look like crap on newer TVs. And I know I could get an emulator and USB controller, but call me old school. I like to play games on my older systems. I still have my SNES and like to play Mario RPG and Secret of Evermore from time to time.![]()

The official guide was terrible, true, but the game wasn't reliant on the guide. You wouldn't miss out on anything any more than if you played any other game without a guide.
That said, a new guide would be a lot of fun, but the release of FFIX on steam would have probably been the prime time to release one if they were going to.
