    Player Casinos?

Eh, is this allowed? A player shouts and uses party finder, offering payouts on dice rolls within a certain number range.

I haven't seen this in a game in ages. Yes I can easily ignore that person but I am still curious.

If player casinos are okay, that will just be another form of annoying spam to battle...

From what I recall at one point they are allowed, but they are held to standard. As in if they cheat or scam they are liable for being reported. Granted that may have changed at one point as its been months since I last saw word of one.

I don't feel that it wouldn't be allowed. I could see how it wouldn't but it's pretty benign, considering the game already has a gambling system. Unless they're abusing the shout function more than your average crafter or dead carry group, it's really nothing that bad to witness.

Don't see no reason why they wouldn't allow it unless real money was involved or something.

They are permitted. I'm on Gilgamesh and there is no end to the Player Casino spam. My blacklist is mostly Player Casino users. I don't bother blocking RMT bots because we have so few of them but Player Casino? There is usually 1-2 in every major hub / city or on the PF ever since we got the /roll feature a while back.

Any moment now it will be revealed that WHM is cheating on SCH with MNK after having had DRG's baby and DRG is WHM's cousin who is already married to PLD.

At least the /dice has benefit to use it. I rarely see my server using it other than "get bored".

People can use it for RP purposes and I know I used it myself to help decide who should go with someone for a duty run.

Casinos are legal, as far as I know, though if you run one yourself you'll most likely be blacklisted by an awful lot of people. Even if players don't mind the idea of casinos in general, they tend to get irritated by the nigh-constant chat spam.

They are usually legit, too, not scammers, for the same reason that real-life casinos rarely cheat: the house always wins, in the long run. Simply put, an honest casino stands to make a lot more money than one that takes the cash from one or two players and then runs. There are a lot of stupid people out there who don't understand how probabilities work who are willing to throw away their money. As long as the casino owner sets up their payouts wisely, they'll make money hand over fist without ever needing to cheat or scam.

For these reasons, I recommend avoiding either side of the deal. Don't run a casino, because you'll get blacklisted by half the server, and don't play at a casino because you WILL lose money over time.
